“Nice, homey resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

When we first checked into the Riding Rock Resort in January, 2012, I was skeptical. The room looked just a little worn. The air conditioner sounded like a 747 with an oil leak. The ceiling fan wheezed. The bed squeaked. But it took only 24 hours to make me a believer in the resort. The staff did their darnedest to help me feel comfortable. They fixed the bed. We didn't use the ceiling fan, and the AC mellowed out after being on for a spell. But what really hooked me was the staff. This is a family owned operation, with hands on management. That translates to customer satisfaction. If I wanted to talk to the owner, no problem, she's behind the counter. Or he's helping around the property. Their regular dive master position had just been vacated, and their go to guy that steps in when they need temporary help is a peach of a guy. And he's from Michigan! As am I. Tyler and Jim, his assistant, were more than great. And they had backup help from John as well. The diving was all it's built up to be, with plenty of sharks, fish, coral and sponges. Our boat captain, Bruce, is knowledgeable, dependable and a nice guy to boot. They all made our group of 14 feel like we were valued customers, as well as family. The food was good, not great, but good. The wait staff and Peaches, the bartenderess, were also part of the great experience. I would defiantly come back.

Room Tip: We had the deluxe rooms, but had a peek at the regular rooms. Both looked good.

“A very quite place basically desert, ideal for private holidays”

San Salvador is the most historic island of the Bahamas, it is here that Columbus did land on the 12th October of 1492, "discovering" the New World. The island with a unique see, has
a little populations , over 1.300 peop0le, in the same size as Manhattan. It has only two opposite possibilities for stayng One is the Club Med, who is a large place, full of life and entertainment, and it is one of the best ClubMed worlwide. The other is the Riding Rock, built in the Fifties, when there was a large american base, and which has about 50 rooms, with a swimming pool and a tennis court, and nothing else. It is over the bay, rooms go directly into the beach. Rooms are simple, but with everything.needed.
This resort was a very famous diving center. But, because of the death of the owner, diving has been disconnected. The hotel now is largely desert, and if somebody wants to have an holiday in absolute peace and in direct contact with nature, yet with air conditioning and modern amenities, this would be kideal. Be ready for simple food, basic service, but lot of peace, and an island at your service...

Room Tip: All the ground floor go directly into the beach

“Excellent dive operation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

While we did not stay at Riding Rock (its lodging was already full by the time we went looking for accommodations), we would very much like to put in a good word regarding their dive operation, which we did use throughout our stay on the island.

The dive staff was friendly, but highly professional and organized. We were treated like good friends, but also as guests expecting a safe, enjoyable, professionally guided dive trip. The equipment we rented was well cared for and in good shape. And, the staff did a terrific job of managing trips that made experienced and novice divers alike feel accommodated.

On a side note: We enjoyed a few evenings in the Riding Rock's bar, which is governed by the very capable Peaches. She makes a mean anything, but try the Pina Colada and the Bahamian Breeze. They're her specialties!

“Great diving, great people, great food, comfortable accomodations”

My wife and I just stayed at Riding Rock for two weeks of diving. This place treats you like family (in a good way). The staff was great and eager to help make our stay better in any way they could. The dive staff is professional, fun and extremely experienced. Diving is amazing. Three dives a day. Leave your gear on the boat. I could not have been easier or more enjoyable.
