We spent an awesome week (January) celebrating our 25th anniversary. We were the only couple (on our plane) that did not go to the big resort and have every activity be large group outings. Margaret Taxi #5 picked us up at the Georgetown airport and had us at the "dingy-dock" in less then 10 minutes ( there is a set rate of $30 cash )
Gillian met us immediately and a 5 minute boat ride took us to Stocking island. Where we were snorkeling less then one hour after our plane landed. The location is perfect with both ocean and protected bay steps away. Watch the sun rise from your oceanfront porch each morning and eat dinner as the sun sets from the resorts covered deck. We found the lunch and dinners to be equal to the best fresh seafood we've tasted at any 4 star restaurant. The fresh tuna raps and calamari were to die for (and yet affordable). The chef is talented and service excellent.
Think ahead about how you want to spend your time as there are no set activities but the staff will help you make any arrangements. They checked the weather and helped us rent a boat so we could snorkel on our own(we had dolphins alongside our boat but were too excited to remember to take pictures)! On the day or two that the ocean was too rough to snorkel- we hiked each end of the island (they provide maps).
St. Francis ionizes their drinking water and it is wonderful. We just filled up our water bottles each morning and packed some snack food from home set off on another adventure..
Our last afternoon my husband caught up on reading (on the deck) while I was thrilled with several hours learning to sailing and enjoying the island coast as the wind took us. My delightful and knowledgeable instructor entertained me with the history and custom's of the Bohemian people. Ask about the sailing and snorkeling options St Francis offers. It was this kind of personal experience that has us already talking friends and family to join us for a return trip.
If you feel the need to socialize in the evenings there is plenty of opportunity to connect with the "boaters" who spend several months each year in the area. They have wonderful stories.
Finally, the best thing is... you feel at home at St. Francis. You don't have to dress up for company. They make you feel welcome like you are apart of the family and yet you never have to cook / clean or meet anyone's expectations. It is true relaxation and guilt free fun! Maybe I'll see you there!
