While in the Exumas on a cruise on my sailboat, we developed some mechanical problems, and needed a place to hold over while we waited for parts from the states. Because we were close to it, and because their marina is so well protected from any inclement weather, we chose Sampson Cay. Wow. What an experience. An absolutely beautiful island, with even nicer beaches. Clean, well kept grounds, clear waters, white sand, lots of fish. The marina was top notch and all the dock hands were friendly, courteous, and anxious to help with anything we needed, including helping us move the boat. There was a 'good morning' or 'hello' from the staff whenever you ran into them. The dockmaster found time every day to stop by and make sure we were doing OK and would ask if we needed anything. From what I understand, they have a new chef at the restaurant, and he really put out some great food. When we would run into the manager and his wife we were always greeted with a smile and asked again if we needed anything. While cruising the Exumas, I usually anchor out. I always have. But you can bet the next time I'm near Sampson Cay Club we'll make arrangements to stay there. It was just great.
