13 of us from Orlando stayed at the resort in December, 2011, 11 divers and 2 non-divers. It was an incredible experience from start to finish. The resort was fabulous, rooms were luxurious and the food was delicious. I have only one comment that could be negative or positive and that is that the wi-fi was down, personally I found that exciting because that truly meant I was on vacation, others were disturbed by that, but it came back after a day and a half w/out.
This is the trip report I posted for my Divestore. It's accurate and says it all.
Eleuthera Trip report:
Everyone arrived together, safely with all their luggage, :-), in anticipation of 3 days of diving excitement off the walls of Eleuthera. We arrived to the Cape Eleuthera Marina and Resort just in time to see a couple of fisherman cleaning their catch off the dock. They were suddenly surrounded by at least 5 huge hungry nurse sharks and the 2 resident Bull sharks. Needless to say, there was no swimming in the marina. Neal Watson greeted us with a dive briefing and a little information on the island and things to do.
The food at the resort was INCREDIBLE to say the least. All meals were cooked to perfection, desserts were baked fresh every day. Nell is out of this world with her flavorful dishes. The best part of the resort experience was the all inclusive package. Totally worth the expense.
Our first day of diving, Neal Watson Jr. took us to Cut-thru drop off, a 200+ft wall drop in beautiful pristine 150ft plus vis, and 78 degree waters, followed by a shallow reef all teeming with something new to see. Throughout the 3 days of diving of walls and reefs, sights included Barracudas, sleeping and awake Reef Sharks, large Grouper, King and Spanish Mackerel, yellow tail Snappers, lettuce leaf nudibranchs, lots of juveniles, so many other species, too much to name, also quite a few swim-thrus and lots of pinnacles with pretty corals. One of the dives took us to a sunken drug smugglers plane, definitely good for a picture or 2. We didn't get to see the Cobia harvesting due to the seas picking up on our last day, but that, from what I understand is a must see.
The afternoons were on our own to discover parts of the island, while some of us grabbed a hammock, a book, and a rum drink and sat on the leeward beach, others grabbed the complimentary bikes and toured the island, or just took long walks on the 2 beaches at the resort. Our last day, Neal and Steve, our Dive Leaders for the week, took us in their personal vehicles all over the island to do the “Bahamian Experience”. We all tried the famous Conch Salad at Coco Plums, made right there after they showed us how to clean the conch. Neal and Steve, as well as the resort staff, truly provided a great customer experience. Everyone had a great time! With 13 in tow, you imagine one would make something derogatory comment, but not a one, exception of the wi-fi being down, but that was nothing a Rum Punch wouldn't take care of. :-).
One of the most fascinating places to visit while in Eleuthera is The Island School. Especially if you have teenage children that are interested in the Marine world, check out this site.
If you get a chance, fit that into your visit.
I know I will definitely be back as this was a great deal for the price and it's so close to home for us.
Room Tip: All the rooms were accomodating and all patios allowed for a sunset view.
