“A bit of paradise in 'Lutra.....”

We have just returned from Eleuthera and a stay at The Duck Inn. The cottage was wonderful, the grounds and gardens immaculate. John and Katy were great and very helpful with suggestions on places to see, eat, etc. Really good bonefishing just steps from our door and John is up to date on tides, lures, etc. We can't wait to return for another stay at this island paradise.

“Awesome! We loved every minute of it!”

Our family stayed at the Duck Inn and we loved it! We stayed at the Flora's Garden House. The house was well equipped and had 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms with a full kitchen. The service was wonderful and the house and gardens were beautiful. We have traveled to many places, but this was the most peaceful experience that we have ever had. We visited many beaches, but some of our favorites were the Light House Beach (need a SUV), Rainbow Beach and Club Med Beach. We found many shells while snorkeling. The people were fantasic, and we were surprised by two fisherman when they gave us a 7 pound lobster that they had just caught, they just said Merry Christmas. I can not explain the feeling that it gave us to be on this beautiful island at Christmas time.

Driving on the left hand side was an a bit difficult at first. You should bring some supplies as this is a very remote location. You should bring sun screen, and most of your dry goods. If you are looking for entertainment this is not your island.

We visited Harbour Island and rented golf carts and went on the beautiful pink sand beach. The weather was great!

John, Kayte and Taco (the dog) were wonderful hosts! We plan on returning very soon!

“Wonderful location, host, and dog!”

The Duck Inn was the perfect place to stay for us. The room (Honeypot Studio) was clean, nicely furnished, and comfortable, with a lovely patio and view. The host (John) was very helpful but not oppressive. He was there when we checked in, and was available after that as we needed him. The orchid gardens were a delight to walk through, and the best part was Taco, John's dog, who hung out with us for much of our stay. We would leave our door open, and call for him in the morning, at which point (not before), he'd come into the room with us. Taco also literally showed us the way to the beach, and stayed with us there.

The kitchen is well-stocked with pots, pans, plates, etc. This was a nice way to save a little money by cooking our own breakfasts on occasion.

There's a nice beach about 15 minutes away (by foot). The town is small, but there's a great bakery/cafe right around the corner from the Duck Inn. Also, if you have a car, you must try Tippy's, which is about a 10-minute drive from the Inn. I would recommend renting a car and checking out other beaches, including Lighthouse Point, which is a great spot for privacy. Make sure you go all the way to the end - that's the best spot.

I would gladly go back to the Duck Inn.

“our own private island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2005

We had a wonderful time at the Duck Inn. Our room was really clean and comfortable. The view from our deck was beautiful. Our hosts we really helpful in letting us know where to go and what to do for fun. The best part of our trip was renting a car and driving to Lighthouse point - stunning. So private (perfect for skinny dipping!) and breathtaking. In fact, most beaches we went to we were the only ones there. If you're looking for an escape from everything the Duck Inn is the place to go. The only downfall to the island (not the Inn) is litter left over from past hurricanes (and locals) that takes a bit away from the beautiful landscape.

“True Get-away”

My wife and I stayed at the Duck Inn for the week of March 19th, 2005. While the three room inn and the small town might not be what most vactioners are seeking, it was exactly what we had hoped for. Our room was charming, with a full kitchen and great view of the harbor, and John and Katy were most gracious hosts. The town itself was quaint and friendly, with several resturants, two reasonably well stocked groceries, and even the only movie theater on Eleuthera. Fresh fish was available daily at the boat dock a few yards from our room. You can fish in the harbor or walk over the hill to the old Club Med beach. We will definitely be back.
