The Duck Inn, its owners, and staff should serve as the mold by which other B&Bs are rated.
John, the owner, was extremely responsive through email regarding our reservations and requests. Reservations were a breeze, and the rates were the most reasonable on the entire island! John even booked our rental car for us over email, which was ready and waiting at Governors Harbour Airport. We hit several flight delays when traveling to Eleuthera, and John kept in touch with us via email throughout our delay to ensure that we were able to make it to the island. John was also kind enough to not charge us for the night we were unable to stay because of our flight delay.
We stayed in the Hunny Pot studio, which is outfitted with a full kitchen, queen size bed, futon, A/C, fans, ports, pans, dishes, utensils, t.v., and a fast wireless internet connection. The kitchen was very much appreciated since dinner for 3 on Eleuthera ran us over $100. Needless to say, we cooked many of our meals. The place was spotless and several maps and guides were placed on the table (which was extremely useful when trying to locate the hidden beaches of the island). We had impeccable maid service everyday - she even washed the dishes!! Lastly, there were no rooms below or above us, so we slept well every night (no noise).
The Duck Inn is not on the beach (although the Hunny Pot studio has a patio that overlooks the turquoise waters of Governors Harbour), but we perceived this as a benefit because we never had problems with the mosquitoes and no-see-ums. We only encountered bug problems when we were on or near the beach at dusk. In addition, the property is situated on the middle of the island, which makes it a convenient home base to explore (as the island is about 100 miles north to south).
I highly recommend the Duck Inn to anyone (couple or family) looking for clean and large accommodations centrally located on Eleuthera!
