“Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

Beautiful place! Hotel was true Island paradise for the price. You can walk from site to beach. Hotel room was clean and room had a T.V. Our room had a view towards beach and we had a wonderful sunset. This part of Island was perfect for us as we were on our honey moon and it was nice and quite. There were restaurants near by if you do not want to eat on site. We eat every morning for Breakfast and went to local place for lunch and dinner. We rented a car from big Daddy on the island as he left it with keys in visor for us at FBO as we flew our own plane in. It was Easter weekend and everything was closed. We needed tie downs for our Mooney and the owner of the only local Market/Hardware gas station store met us and opened store up and sold us rope and gas. Bahamian are nicest people we have met on our travels. We drove to fairy and took it to Governors Harbour, for a day. We had a wonderful 3 day trip. This part of Island was very romantic and I would recommend this hotel and area to anyone looking to get away from it all on a budget! I can't wait to go back!

“Look Elsewhere--unless you like the company of bed bugs/geckos”

Checked in and couldnt check out fast enough...sadly we checked and went right to the beach/dinner and by the time we returned to look closely at the room the front desk was closed (it was about 8:30 at night). Both beds had bugs and there were at least two geckos in the room. I'm not a snob, but the room was disgusting. I can put up with some rust in the tub and some old screens/decor---but even for the $100 bucks a night---it would have been better to just sleep on the beach. Annie the manager was polite and offered to give back money for the second night as we moved elsewhere. Place is for sales and surely they are not looking to spend a penny on keeping the place up. Decent location (can walk to beach and few bars/restaurants in town)---but do yourself a favor a go to one of the few other places in Governors Harbour. At least the roosters were a nice wake up call to remind us that we could move to another place soon--since morning was here (although we didnt get a wink of sleep).

“Hope to find more stable next visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2010

All the Bahamas have been hit economically - 6th trip to Eleuthera and never had stayed at Cigatoo - nice little place that's showing distress - the service was fine, clean room, pool, but many details suffering - tub faucet, soap dish, handles fell off - TV remote broken - the property is for sale and was delisted from the Choice Hotel chain - but I will look forward to returning here - very nice property, quality is hidden by the environment. I hope the new owner will invest in the finishing touches need to bring this charmer back.

“Pretty little gem”

Simple and charming. Keep in mind that this is one of the out- islands of the Bahamas, where they haven't yet built luxury resorts and get very few tourists. You can't compare this hotel to properties in developed areas. The property itself is very clean and well-maintained. The restaurant may not offer gourmet fare, but it's the only place in town open after 5 p.m., the service is fast and friendly, the decor is bright and pretty and you can get a good selection of liquors, as well as a frosty cold Kalik Bahamian beer to go with it. We had fried grouper for dinner. It was fresh and tasty. The property is not luxurious, but it's really cute and they obviously take pride in it. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms were simply furnished, but well maintained, although the mattress on our bed was pretty hard. The gardens were pretty and there was a nice small swimming pool. I loved the fresh flowers everywhere. If you don't have a car it's a bit of a hike to the beach.

“Ate But Didn't Stay: Some Notes That Might Be Useful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2005

Have not stayed at Cigatoo but here are some observations from a one-week stay in Governor's Harbour in mid-November 2005. Due diligence: Cigatoo is a Quality Inn and so is part of the US-owned Choice Hotels megaplex of hotel properties. The hotel is set at the crest of a hill above GH at a point where Eleuthera is not much more than a mile wide. A ten-to-fifteen minute walk down to the east(-ish) side of the island takes you to the very nice and completely deserted pinkish sands of ClubMed Beach (the beach is several miles long; ClubMed is gone, destroyed by a hurricane several years ago); five-to-ten minute walk down to the west(-ish) side takes you to town. More due diligence: liabilities of the nice breezy hilltop location...the immediate skyline is dominated by a BaTelCo antenna tower right down the road...and the walk back from town is up about a third of a mile of looooooooong and fairly challenging hill. Wouldn't want to do it regularly in really hot weather.

The property: nicely landscaped...well-kept appearance...gift shop...tennis courts...didn't see rooms. The restaurant is popular at dinnertime, possibly owing to the extremely limited dining choices in GH after 5:00 p.m. We had several meals at the restaurant and I was...underwhelmed. Breakfast (probably the best Cigatoo meal we had) was good but not cheap...$25 for two omelettes and two coffees and service (auto-added). Dinner was nothing special...grade it fair to disappointing...restaurant boasts a Chinese menu...unimpressive. Prices for one starter or dessert + one burger + one entree + two beverages + auto-added service were about $35-40...service was fairly quick but ranged from pleasant to bored and almost grudging. If the food quality and prices were a match for the pleasant decor and atmosphere, they'd have something worth writing home about.

TA users, feel free to email with questions about Governor's Harbour...also see notes on GH town in my review of Laughing Bird Apartments.
