We had the pleasure of staying in a condo on Windermere Island in January of 2007. The condo needed some work (our room and bathroom hadn't been touched in 20 years) but the beach was right outside the front window.....
Miles and miles of nothing but sand and surf. It was amazing. A few palm trees survived the last hurricaine, but it showed they were lacking. While we were there we may have run into a half dozen other vacationers, but other than that we were alone on the miles and miles of beach. It was heaven.
The weather was perfect the whole time, we had one day where it was chilly - a storm was blowing in but blew right by. The next day the body surfing in the waves was incredible !! Other than that, the sun was hot, hot, hot, the water was like swimming in a warm bath, the water was clear and perfect for snorkling along the reefs.
Windermere Island is incredible, some of the houses are spectacular - if we had the $$ we would have bought Sea Lily - what an incredible house ! Visited the "Club" one evening, wasn't open because of the holidays but it looked nice - even in the dark. Visited the beach on the "other side" of Windermere, very calm, lots and lots of shells, had a close encounter with a barracuda - got out of the water very quickly.
Great vacation, loved the Bahamas, would definitely go again - but to another island.
