Placing this review a bit late for Windermere island however better late then never. If anyone reading this review ever gets the pleasure of going to Windermere Island take my advice and go. My wife and I travelled to Windermere in October of 2003 and are looking forward to going back. The island which is situated off of the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas is 5 miles long and is sheer paradise. We went at the peak of hurricane season and for 11 days had the most beautiful beach I've ever seen to ourselves. Thats right 5 miles of beach on a remote island in the Bahama's for 11 days to ourselves. We didn't see 1 other person on the entire island for 11 days other then the security guard on the bridge. As for the beach itself. Breathtaking. its a beach that features Pink Sand..really, Pink Sand...and water thats a crystal clear sky blue that has to be seen to believe. And apparently its not rare to have the island to yourself. Doubt we'll ever experience anything like it again.

The island itself is no more then 100 metres wide and is inhabited by only 50 odd beach front condo's that all face the ocean. We were on the ground floor of the condo complex on the south end of the beach. All of the condos in this complex were vacant except for ours. Our unit was extremely well kept and featured every amenity. At night all we had to hear were the crickets and waves rapping against the shore while we gazed at the moon over the open water. Walking by all the condo's on the island every day we noticed that all the units were really well kept but all were vacant. The Hamilton House looked especially gorgeous. Off the island in town make sure you try the conch salad at one of the many restaurants and on friday evening be sure to go to the local fish fry. Best meal of our trip. So if your looking for a remote, relaxing getaway you won't beat Windermere Island anywhere in the world. The only word of advise is watch out for the sand knats that come out as soon as the sun goes down. The first night we sat outside for hours and I got bit quite a buit. Also bring as much perishable food with you that you can. The grocers in town is very expensive. A 2-4 of Kalik beer which is the domestic brand of choice and delicious is a steep $48 a case so come prepared. Other then that couldn't beat the vacation we had on Windermere island.
