This is NOT the place for you if you insist upon a turn down service with mints on your pillows OR you have to have the latest and greatest in room decor and spa treatments. It is THE place to go if you want to relax and experience the best beach in the Caribbean. Greenwood is owned by a very friendly German family, so there are many German guests----as well as guests from all over the globe. Because the meals are served somewhat communally, you find yourself sitting with others (only if you want to, of course). I told my husband it was like visiting with family members that you have not seen for a long time, because that is how close you can become with other guests in a short period of time. (You could stick to yourself, but you miss half the fun in staying here.) Greenwood is a very clean facility, but the rooms are basic and maybe even sparse--- you will have everything you need, though. Our room was furnished with a comfortable king sized bed, bedside tables, two wicker chairs, a wicker desk, and a rattan bookshelf. DEFINITELY ask for a airconditioned room if you go there in the summer. The bathroom was clean and adequate. The food is prepared by local cooks. We had excellent fish and conch. There is beer, wine, and spirits and guests are on the "honor system" and sign up for what they drink during the day. There aren't many stores on the island, so bring what you think you will need in the way of pharmaceuticals, toiletry items, etc. There are a few basic "convenience stores" but the inventory is limited. I have a problem with insect bites (mosquitos and sand fleas) and, as a last resort, used the DEET I brought to keep them away. If you have problems with bites, bring benadryl tablets as well. Amazingly, though, after the second day the bites did not bother me at all and I quite taking the benadryl. Rent a car for a day---you probably won't need it for more than that---and tour the island. The roads are not great in places, but you can get around easy enough. Visit the other resorts. We saw several of them and concluded that we got the best bang for our buck at Greenwood. Plus the folks there are very accommodating. (They even politely tolerated my husband---the professional chef---coming into the kitchen to make biscuits one morning.) The developers have not found this island, yet, but it's coming, so see the Bahamas as they used to be.
P.S. If you have room in your luggage and like animals, bring cat and dog treats. There is a lazy black and white kitty who naps on the registration desk and there are three friendly dogs that wander freely about and serve as the burglar alarm/welcoming committee/swimming companions.
