“Beautiful location but hire a car/bike”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

We stayed here 3 nights after completing a 7 day bareboat charter. It is out of town but walkable, I would recommend you hire a car or bike as the cost of taxi in marsh harbour is extortionate no where is more than 10 mins by car, but expect to pay $20 a time for your trips.
We arrived early and liz greeted us, our little yellow home wasn't ready but we were aloud to drop our bags and chill on the hammocks.
The little 'villas' are all pastel shades and set right on the beach, when the tides in the waves can splash up against the patio doors. Very pretty location.
They are a bit tired and grubby (dust, sand and hair everywhere)inside, could do with a thorough spring clean. but spacious. The king bed is enormous. There is main trance work going on behind, repairs to last years Hurricane, it has to be done sometime.
There's not much to do in Marsh Harbour and most places close early, there are a few lively bars. Jib room- great rib night.
Don't expect a trip to the Abaco to be cheap or reasonable.. It's not, it's very over priced for what you get. Some good quality some very average. There are better tropical places in the world that are better value.

“Terrible, horrible & awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed in unit #7 (don't let them put you in it). It is behind all the other villas and part of the office/laundry. You can see the ocean if you walk out and look between the other buildings. The floor is wooden and I think it's rotting out although they have covered it with large ceramic tiles which sink in when you stand on them and some of them are cracked because there is nothing under them to support the weight. The bed was probably bought in the 70's and never been replaced; it slopes into the middle - not just a little - you have to sleep hanging on the edge or your back will kill you in the morning; it is literally pounded to death and wobbly. We had our towels changed once and no housekeeping done at all during our Sunday to Thursday stay. They clean the rooms like they are circles - the corners are dirty. The room has a microwave, sink & frig so you really can't prepare much for food. You have to rent a car if you stay here - it's a really long walk to anywhere. The Jib Room only has meals on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The other units look like they are permanently rented to local Bahamians and they look like they are built on cement slabs. The beach is very, very small and very dirty - not someplace where you want to hang out.
You would be way better off to pay extra money and stay some place decent - it ruins the holiday, staying here.

Room Tip: a different place but definitely not #7.

“What a Beautiful Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

Pelican Beach Villas are in a truly beautiful location. The surf laps up on your front yard. Hammocks are strategically distributed among the six villas. The interior of the little boxes are well-appointed. Do not expect any food, coffee or amenties. Also, they advertise Wi-Fi but it is total B.S. Only the first two villas have access to Wi-Fi. Their router is not powerful enough to reach the other four villas. We had planned to use Skype as our phone system over Wi-Fi but it was impossible from our room. It was still okay because you just walk down the path to get closer to the office. But still, be warned.

Several of our neighbors were staying for a month at a time. We only stayed three days! Jealous! Next time, we will stay longer. The number of restaurants at Marsh Harbour is astounding. Lots of great places to eat, prices are expensive, food is top-notch.

Room Tip: Beds were comfortable. Nice interiors, obviously well taken care of. Clean.

“Great Location, but issues...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2009

Our group rented two villas, and while the location is wonderful -- water on both sides -- we were disappointed with cleanliness and value issues. For the rate ($225/night), it really would not have been too much to ask to have the beds made properly and the villa checked for dust and missing/out light bulbs. We arrived at 10pm after a long day, so were pretty outraged at opening the sofa bed to find the rumpled sheets of the previous occupant. The other beds were made, but had clearly been slept in before, as there was sand and hairs on the sheets. If it was not as late as it was, we would have left immediately. The kitchen was not very well cleaned either, but the following morning, we left a note for housekeeping asking them to clean and put fresh sheets on the beds -- all of which was done and the villa much cleaner than before.

Perhaps there was an oversight or comminication problem, but it would be reasonable to expect to arrive to a clean place. The location does make up for this though, as the villas are steps away from the water. Of the 6 villas, some are closer to the "beach" than others which have only a rocky shore in front. Beach is a loose term also, as depending on the tide levels, there may or may not be a beach. Definitely bring water shoes as there are rocks in the water too.

The villas are a short walk from "downtown" Marsh Harbour with restaurants and shopping. Renting a bicycle is a fun way to get around, with rentals available in town (also cars and scooters)

“Relax and stay a while”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2009

I've actually stayed at this property a few times and loved it! It is right on the water overlooking the Sea of Abaco. The location is very quiet and relaxing, but local entertainment and shopping is nearby. I prefer to walk, but you may also call for a taxi. My favorite moments were waking up to the beautiful sunrises with a freshly made pot of coffee. The villas have fully equipped kitchens, central A/C, cable, and phone, if you are in need of a few extras. A short swim off shore to mermaid reef provides a great little snorkeling area. This location would also be good for a family reunion, as you could rent all the villas. Do not forget to stop in at the Jib room for a great dinner or a few drinks, its about 5 minutes walking distance away. One other tip... on your way to the villas from the airport, ask your taxi driver to stop so you can pick up a few items at the grocery store. I'm sure you will be thirsty after you unpack!
