“Redwood Rocks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2007

The Redwood has the perfect location in Freeport. The staff was very nice, the even have free Redwood punch in the lobby. We did one of the timeshare excursions and had a lot of fun there. We got to swim and hang out at the wet bar! The rooms at the Redwood were cleaned daily, and the staff was pleasant all day and night. The pool was clean the entire time we were there. The casino and the market were about a 5 minute walk away. The Prop Club was a cool club to hang out at night and you could walk there as well.

“Great Stay”

I just returned from the Grand Bahamas. My husband and I stayed at the Redwood Hotel. We had a great stay there, the place was nice and clean. The Hotel is under new management, so there is some renovations. The staff was very nice, even made coffee in the late evening for me. This is a prime location for visiting the market place and taking tours.
Thanks, Trina and Sean for your Execellent customer service.
We will be staying at Redwood again.

Sincerely,
Brew

BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCKS ONE BLOCK FROM THE BEACH.
Casino, marketplace, bus stop, taxis and yacht club all within eyeshot. night clubs and pubs all within walking distance.

Wife and I stayed here March of '07.

Staff very courtious and the room was taken care of daily.

the place is old, and looks it. but the location to all the local attractions more than makes up for it.

shower was a bit cramped and we were only supplied with bar soap, face cloth and hand towels. no bathtub. no shampoo. no conditioner. no toothpaste. no mints on the pillow.

the pool was cleaned daily and sparkled.

the only amenities were a refigerator, TV, and A/C.
(no phone in room, no microwave, no coffee on premises. soda machine with water and coke near lobby).

the room had an ice bucket, but no ice machine was present during our stay.

if you'd rather spend your money on dining, gambling, shopping, a good cuban cigar or excursions instead of sleeping, this is the place.

  • Liked — allowed me to enjoy the bahamas without spending all my money on a hotel.

“Never trust a travel agent...book things yourself”

We let Security Travel of St. Petersburg, book this 3 nite ship excursion with an upgraded hotel as the "Redwood" because of it's closer location to the beach and the restaurants. That "upgrade" cost $159 more than the Bell Channel a mile away. Keep in mind we also paid the $30/day hotel fee in cash to the hotel which in effect was $83/day which is $2 more than if we would have booked the room directly with the Redwood staff with taxes included via the internet or by phone. This also means that Security travel put the whole $159 in their pocket as we effectively gave back the original Bell Channel lodging in this so called upgrade. THIEVES and Scoudrels work in FL travel agencies.
We were not overly thrilled with Grand Bahama island except for the pristine water and beaches. Taxi drivers we had were grumpy, everything is expensive and the public restrooms were filthy most of the time. Some were even closed due to a sewer problem one nite.
The Redwood was a bargain compared to all the other hotels nearby, nice older retired couple own and run it. It is clean but old and has few amenities other than a pool, tv and frig. Owner did round up a hair dryer when we needed one:) Also note there is no elevator for oldies with stair climbing issues. We thought the bed was very comfortable and the room good sized.
The Redwood would be a good place to spend a longer stay as it is more affordable and smaller than the name brands in the area.
Be sure to book a first floor room if you can't do stairs.
You will especially like the owners. They do care about their customer's needs. After all this business is their pension.

“Budget Friendly and Outstanding Hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2006

What the Redwood lacks in decor and luxury is made up for by excellent service and hospitality. The manager went out of her way to see that the details were taken care of, such as providing us an umbrella when it rained. She also offered for us to wash our laundry in the hotel facility at no charge; when we came back to collect our laundry, we found it had been folded and left in our room.
The Redwood is in an excellent location. You are within walking distance of the casino, beach, Port Lucaya Marketplace and Marina. You never need a taxi!
