“The Poorest excuse for a "hotel"”

from the minute my friend and i pulled up to this place we knew we were in for a ride. It seems as though they never get guest coming here because the minute you get out of the car and approach the hotel , you are literally bombarded! we were told we had to got here to speak to some guy who had no teeth and i could barely understand a word he was saying. Lets just say it was waaaaaaaaay to personal and made my friend and i feel very overwhelmed. they wanted to know our names and all i couldnt stand it! i mean the rooms were furnished but there were ants ... EVERYWHERE! the shower was very tiny and might i add disgusting. we took showers with our flip flops on because this was just nasty and it was so small that i was touching the wallls when taking a shower UGH! okay so on our second night, we go down to their mosquito infested lobby to use the phone to contact our family. (there was only ONE phone in the whold hotel) and when we get there its locked, no one at the"front desk" . so we go up to our rooms and the key isnt working so we're basically locked out ! The hotel was basically left unattended so we ended up going to the police station where they contacted this JERK* who was supposedly the hotel owner. We just didnt feel safe and might i add that there was a random guy in the pool. this is how i spent the eve of my birthday. we ended up leaving that night and going to another hotel that was close by called the port lucaya resorts. We realized we had left our shower gels in their infested bathroom so we went back in the a.m. to get it. this man (sean) gave us some BS story about how there was a freeze lock on our door blahblahblah but he lied because right when we were leaving the housekeeping lady was going right into the room we were in so we argued until we were able to get back inside.and get our stuff. oh and he refused to refund us our hotel taxes for the night we paid for but didnt stay at the hotel!!! This was just a disaster all in all! I hope no one else is a victim to this place its a trap and not even worth a penny!

“Have stayed here once in 2006 & will again in July 2009”

When a friend & I stayed in 2006, we were glad we didn't have our husbands with us as they WOULD NOT have stayed there. At the time, it was clean & we figured we wouldn't be in the room much so we stayed...my friend insisted on the "UPGRADE" from Security Travel again, which is a total rip-off...so after reading the 2009 reviews, I'm afraid of what we'll find so you will hear from me upon my return!

“Pathetic”

I don't know if there is another Redwood on Grand Bahama or not, but the one we stayed at was an absolute dump. If you just need a place to leave your bags I guess it's OK, but if you plan to sleep or shower I recommend looking elsewhere. We, too, were offered the "upgrade"from Security Travel. The location is definitely good-straw market is across the parking lot and the beach is about a 10 minute walk. There is where it ends. After paying our hotel tax and checking in, we were informed we needed to see "Big Mama". Turned out it was to be signed up for the the hard sell to buy a timeshare at Taino Resort. We were supposed to have had two rooms-four kids in one and two adults in the other. Something got mixed up and we were signed up for one room. Luckily someone didn't check in that night so we got their room. The next morning we were informed we needed to shift back to our original room since someone was coming for it. That is when I called Security and told them to call Bell Channel and switch us back there and to call the Redwood and tell them we were leaving. I gave him a litany of reasons why: ants all ove the bathrooms, non-functioning air conditioner, no hot water because the pipes to and from the water heater were disconnected and capped off (!) the place smelled and looked moldy, they claimed it was under renovation. Since 1980, maybe?? I saw no evidence of work having been done or being done. I saw one maid the whole time and it looked as though her six year old granddaughter was helping her. Aside from location, the one helpful maid, and a fairly clean pool this place sucks. To top it all off, I was informed that they don't refund hotel taxes!! They were going to be big about it, though, and refund one night's taxes. I was amazed at that. I have been to many places in the world and understand that the tourism industry is the Bahama's main source of income (so I'm told) but they are blatant about seperating tourists from their money. Hang on to your money and avoid the Redwood!!

“The Redwood was terrible..”

The Redwood was suppose to be an "upgrade" from Bell Channel with Security Travel. I would have hated to see what it was like. We arrived there April 4th, and were very disappointed. Our room had ants in it, the bathroom was worse than a truck drivers shower area, the door had no seals on it so bugs or worm thing could get in, the curtains didn't cover the window, and the beds were broken, that and the staff unlocked our door while we were in there and I was changing, thank God for the little chain holding the door shut so everyone couldn't see me. They wouldn't empty their ac drip pans causing bad slip and fall hazards, and while we were there a lady did fall and they didn't offer to help only handing her a first aid kit. They were under renavation and let no one know. It was totally nasty and a real let down considering this was our 6 year anniversary.

“filthy,dirty,mold growing mess”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 April 2009

we traveled to the bahamas on our vacation, expecting at least,a clean room for the value.
what we found was a filth, dirty.mold infested room with broken bathroom fixtures, falling
apart bedroom furniture, mold growing through the room.,including the curtains, which did not close all the way. there were bugs everywhere,in every room,
for the same value we found another hotel which were acceptable standards.
the room was booked thru security travel in st pete florida.
we are very unhappy with what we found and experienced.
the staff was polite and friendly.
