“the little place that could”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The resort is a little worn, but the people who run it are cordial and very helpful. Several of them offer a Bahamian dinner one night a week for visitors. The pool is very relaxing and the hot tub is clean and warm. If you want a relaxing week with no hassles, this is your place. I forgot to mention that you can stay there with no car since there is complementary trips to the beach each day and to the grocery store 3 days a week.

“Not what we expected”

Freeport Resort is situated inland. The grounds for the most part are well maintained. Very small, 52 rooms. Most activities that are posted do not happen. Although Happy Hour is posted, there is none. It seemes they are very understaffed. No cleaning during the week:i.e. no bed change, bathroom clean up.
If you are a beach person, this probably is not for you. There is a shuttle to the beach(5 miles away) that is not very good. They leave at 11:00 and pick up at 3:00. The best way to a good beach is a taxi. The taxis we used were very friendly and reasonable. We loved Margaritavilla. Small bar on a beach: great drinks and food.
Because the villa is small, we did meet 4 couples that we grouped up with and took Smiling Pat's Tours. The tours were great.
Wednesday night there is a Fish Fry down at a beach. Quite an event. Don't miss it.
In Lacaya, there is a marketplace and Casino. Small Casino and the Marketplace has many empty stores.

Room Tip: There are rooms that face the pool area rather then the back of the bulding

“Excellent Site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

I stayed there last week for a few days. The hotel is built on a very nice setting where I can see the sea and sun rise from my balcony. It was magnificant scene for a city dweller like me that can hardly see the sun from home. I took the photo of the sun rise and now it is the wall paper of my phone that I can show it to my friends.

The hotel overall facilities are good, very spacious and has everything you need at the finger tips. Also, there is a casino in the hotel complex where you can try your luck in the night time.

The food and drink at the Ires bar is good, It is vey good service with big smiles and always can give you advise of what to eat. The lobster pizza is very good and cannot find that in any other places.

Overall, I am very satisfy with the staying at this hotel.

“Disconnected from the island needs update/makeover”

Stayed here for one week and we were happy but not pleased. We did a last minute exchange through interval, when we arrived the office was closed they are open from 8-5 do to being understaffed. Do you know how many people are looking for jobs or trades in the Bahamas? Put up a hiring ad and keep the office open 24 hours. The movies for check out there is nothing later than 1999 :( we ended up checking out a Jesus in galilee movie. They have independent tourist that are cheaper than the other tours but it is inconvenient when they don't take credit it's seems there is a charge for every little thing ride to the beach rt free but to port lucaya $4 one way to the butlers store which is somewhat like Costco is the only store they take you to no variety no good produce. You have to cook or pay them to drive you because the resort is not close to any eateries. This trip was very expensive...:(
