We recently spent a delightful three nights at Auntie Anne's B&B in Freeport, and are already scheming to get back to GBI and stay with them again.
Their house is located about 1.5 miles from the Lucaya marketplace, and a 15 minute walk from the beach at the Coral Seas Resort. When we weren't using the complimentary bicycles, we found the walks along the beach to be thoroughly relaxing. Our hosts were more than willing to drop us off where we needed to go, even airport transportion to and fro. Also, as forty year residents of the island, Anne and Mike were a great resource for advice on activities, dining, and general historical information.
We stayed in the family room, which included a double bed, private bath, small fridge, microwave, and coffee/tea fixings. Though we were only a family of two, we can see how a family with children would enjoy the room - and from the guestbook and photos, many have. Anne provided a delicious breakfast every morning, including coffee/tea, juice, cereal, fruits, and eggs/bacon. The guests take breakfast at the sunny kitchen table, overlooking the pool. If you around at tea time, you will be invited to enjoy a tropical version of this ages-old English tradition.
We looked out onto the pool, where we were greeted every morning by the third member of the Acosta hospitality team, Rio (their seven year old Golden Lab). Mike also raises homing/racing pigeons, and we loved watching them fly around the neighborhood in fast moving squadrons. As the Acostas note on their website, some potential guests might have allergy concerns regarding the animals. However, we found they added to the richness of our experience, along with Mike's knowledge of local bird life.
All in all, we were extremely happy with our choice of this B&B, especially in contrast to all the expensive (and fee-ridden) Lucaya hotels. If you want the best value for your GBI travel budget, Auntie Anne's is the place.
