My partner and I went to Freeport as he used to work their 40 years ago and has never been back so we decided it was time he paid a visit to Freeport to see how things had changed. Arriving at Freeport Mike picked us up and took us straight to his home. From entering their home Anne and Mike made us feel very welcome. Our room was the family room looking onto the pool. It was very spacious, one very large comfortable double bed and a single, en suite, tv, kettle, microwave and crockery. Anne cooked us a really good breakfast to start our day off. There were many books, photos and plenty of information on the Island. It was a refreshing change to stay in a more personable place like this instead of the big impersonal hotels that we usually stay in!! We never felt as if we were intruding into their home and had as much privacy as we wanted to have. The Port of Lucaya was a 10 minute drive down the road where there was a great variety of restaurants and bars - with it being just before Christmas the Port and marketplace was decorated with Christmas Tree and lights - it looked like fairyland! We ate at a Greek and Italian restaurants both of which were excellent - however our favourite bar was "Rum Runners" where we sat at the bar at the buzz from the bar was amazing - we always ended up talking to someone. The beaches on Grand Bahama were amazing - our favourite was Banana Bay - beautiful, next favourite was Pelican Bay - most days we were the only ones on the beaches! Heaven!! The water is crystal clear and very shallow for a long way out.
