When I booked the package trip, I was looking for golf, a pool, and ECONOMY. The Chillingsworth seemed to be the ideal spot. We knew it wasn't near the beach, but that was secondary to accomodations that would be our home base and yet offer some creature comforts. Unfortunately, the hurricane really tore up the part of the island where the Chillingsworth was located. It was heartbreaking to see all the damage and the heroic efforts of everyone to try to get the island back in shape. When we arrived at the Chillingsworth, we were initially disappointed. Not all of the 15 units were repaired and there was no water in the pool. It looked like we were the only guests there. When we got to our unit, a one bedroom condo, we were pleasantly surprised to find that it was very clean and comfortable. The management couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. She apologized about the pool which had developed some cracks and needed to be repaired. The property was clean and while the storms had torn up a lot of the vegetation, it really wasn't bad. The next day, we got up and took a cab to Lucaya to spend the day. We had access to the Westin and Sheridan pools and beaches and spent some time there enjoying the sun. We enjoyed the marketplace and had some great food there. The Casino is right in the middle of it all and we left a few dollars at the blackjack tables. We booked a golf game for the next day at the Reef Course and took a cab back to the Chillingsworth after dinner. The next day we took a cab to the golf course and were fortunate to be paired up with some Bahamians. They were delightful and friendly and the course was well maintained, if not a little expensive. The bottom line is that the Chillingsworth is a great bargain if what you are looking for is economy, friendliness, and cleanliness. It would have cost us about $1,000 more to stay the three nights at the Westin or Sheridan and the cost of the cabs to take us back and forth didn't even come close. It was quiet at night and we slept like babies. One afternoon we even returned early and sat out on our balcony and read and enjoyed the cool breezes. We were impressed with the Taxi services. All the drivers were very professional and friendly and didn't surprise us with extra charges like you find on a lot of the islands. One driver even stopped at the Winn-Dixie grocery store on the way back to the Chillingsworth so we could pick up some food for the night and we weren't charged extra. Chillingsworth was a great home base and we would do it again!
