I would start off by saying the people in Freeport are really friendly and welcomming.
The hotel was for sure a 3 star. Upon check in at this ALL INCLUSIVE resort we were charged $20 to use the safe in our room. Our mini fridge was empty and remaind that way the entire trip. I inquired to the front desk stating the advertisement stated that our mini fridge would be stocked with refreshments, pop and water daily but the front desk told me that is only in certain packages and that if we wanted we could purchase refreshments in the drug store on the resort. All inclusive ????
Our friends were also given a pool view room when the paid the extra for ocean view. The shower in this room also would not turn on without using both hand and a foot on the wall to pull the tap. When they explaind this to the front desk they were told they could see the ocean from where they were. They waited until 4pm the next day to get the accomodations they booked in the first place.
Our room was a typical hotel room. We had bran new beds put in the room the 2nd night there making it extremely comfortable. The bathroom had a spacious shower and counter top. If you let the water run for a few minutes before hoping in you could have a nice shower every day. The balcony was nice with 2 chairs and a table. We did however have to re-attach our screen sliding door when we got there because it was just sitting on the balcony. The room looked right onto the beach and ocean giving us an incredible view.
The house keeping of the rooms could use some work. I liked to have coffee in the room in the Am while wating for my boyfriend to wake up and I had to chase down the house keeper daily to restock the coffee in the room. Also there was constantly a shortage of towels. I had to beg for a face cloth and finally got one after four days. We were only left with 2 shower towels most of the time having to ask for a floor matt, hand towels and face clothes. It became very frustrating especially because we were leaving tips for them daily.
The bartenders were fast and always happy. The entertainers were very friendly trying to make everyone happy throughout the day. It almost felt like an adult day camp though. I prefered to read my book.
The buffet was ok. There was always something on it we could fill up on. The buffet was somewhat open to the outside allowing birds to come in and fly around. The only bothersome part of that was there was some netting higher up that the birds would get caught in and die. We watched a lot of little birds during meals. It was really sad.
The Italian restaraunt was our fav. After the Japanese restaraunt we all went to the buffet. The snack bar on the beach was decent and the pizzarea was soooooo good. It was my fav food there.
The beach was gorgeous. Lots of shells and fish to see while snorkelling. If the weather was a little nicer I would have spent all my time there. There are bars up the beach on both sides of the resort. Banana Bay is to the left when facing the water. We enjoyed the crab cakes, calamari and famous babana bread. It's a little pricy but really good.
We went on the evening cruze and the eco walking tour of the caves and Golden Rock beach. There was a board walk there with lots of fish to feed. Also baby raccoons that are very friendly. They come right up to you and eat out of your hands. The beach there was pure sand. The weather was terrible but I had to go in the water there it was so clear blue. After that they take you to Banana Bay for some grub. That's how we discovered it was right up the beach. The market in Port lucaya was also fun. Most of the vendors sold the same stuff. We went to the After Deck for lunch. Again very pricey but the best fish n chips I ever had.
Freeport itself is kind of a boring Island. There's no wildlife except the raccons and ocean fish to be seen. We were also told this on the way to the hotel so I don't feel bad saying it. I wouldn't reccomend the Island or the Viva Fortuna Resort to anyone. Not compared to the few other places I've been too. Other than Golden Rock Beach and the really great people of Freeport, it was rather dissapointing. This is comming from somone who doesn't have high expectations and has a good time everywhere I go. Don't spend the money to go there.
