“RCI cancelled our booking night before”

RCI called us the day before we were leaving for our vacation to Freeport Bahamas to the hotel Xanadu Beach Resort and Marina. They said they don't know how we got a confirmation for this hotel, it was off their hotels to send members, stating it no longer was up to RCI standards, that they had too many complaints about the members experience. They said the beach furniture is mostly broken the rooms have roaches that are not treated on regular basis. Complaints about rooms no air conditioning. Staff is minimal not up to RCI guidelines. The food is not exceptable. The hall ways of the hotel needs work. We were switched to a wonderful resort Ocean Reef Yacht Club

“Find someplace else to stay”

Do not go here - the hurricane has destroyed this place and they have not been able to recover. The staff is pleasant but they need their jobs and I'm sure would prefer to work at other resorts. The beach is not the best. You can be on a better beach in the USA. Their is too much overgrowth of grass which is not well kept and it causes ants to crawl everywhere on the beach, and the beach is not cleaned on a regular basis. (Bottles, cigarette butts, food, and plastics are on the beach and in the water.) The rooms and balcony's need to be totally renovated and a good dusting and cleaning need to be done, the elevator is depressing, and the location of the place is so far from everything that it cost $ 20 - $25 dollars just to get away from this place. Then of course it's another $ 20 - 25 to get back. The place looks deserted and most of the resort is still closed down from the hurricane of years ago. If you read a good review about this place something is wrong with the writer. I hate to write bad reviews but I'm just being honest. I value my money and time and how its spent. If you must go to freeport just choose another spot.

“we absolutely dreaded our stay at the "Xanadon't)”

Upon arrival, the main lobby is closed. we had to walk to a secondary entrance. Expecting one of the "Villas by the marina" by the way only one boat left in the marina, we were given an efficiency for two couples. disgusted, and tired we were given two seperate rooms. one efficiency and one suite with two rooms and a kitchen, living room two baths. no air conditioning! poorly prepared staff(not their fault) mildew hallways, out dated elevator placard( april 2010) no phone lines the whole week, and wifi only in the downstairs lobby. only about 10 total guests and all put up with the conditions to make the trip to the island the bigger picture. p.s. front desk personnell sherrell and erica were very helpful under the circumstances they were facing. lucky we had a car because port lucaya was where the party was at. totally putrid conditions even for animals. HAAHAA atleast we got to stay in the hotel "grill masters suite" try to get room 1207;-). bedroom wall unit A/C. oh yeah.......XANADON'T.

“priceless family time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

time share with no bells and whistles
private beach with tiki bar
16 family members on vacation
priceless!

Xanadu was a place where the time share rooms were very nice. There was a few staff members working, but the ones t. hat worked there were very accommodating Maid service came on Wednesday to vacuum and clean, however, they were available others days for a fee.
Went grocery shopping and cooked most of our own meals. The most fascinating part about this vacation was the Tiki Bar and the owners. Anton and Bernie took us to so many different places where the locals go. This was one of the best family vacations ever. If you need bells and whistles this isn't the place for you. If you want to feel like you are on your own private beach than you must check it out.

“Absolutely Amazing... can't wait to go back next year”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

If your looking for bellhops and room service.... this is not the resort for you. This is a timeshare...not a hotel. The rooms were huge, clean, fully equipped and the views were incredible. We opened the sliding glass doors to the 4 balconies on our corner unit and let the ocean breezes flow through our unit every evening. We were with our entire family and had a total of 6 units for 1 week. The staff was so kind and they went out of their way to accommodate any and every request, whim, or need. The couple running the restaurant and bar are part of what made this the most memorable vacation we have ever had. They took us to "the other side of the island" and we experienced the bahamas like their guests, instead of tourists.... from the fish fry... to karaoke... even a snorkeling and fishing trip in their own boat where our kids caught 20 lb barracuda and king fish... they even cleaned and cooked all the fish for us. Thank you Anton and Bernie. Our days were spent basking in the sun and enjoying the cool, soft, sand between our toes. The water was so refreshing. We were truly in paradise. We visited Port Lucaya... where it seems all the "action" is... a few hours was enough.. we were ready to head back to our private piece of paradise. We too had read all the reviews...thank God we didn't let them run us off.
I was singing the theme song to the movie XANADU the whole time we were there...
A place where nobody dared to go, the love that we came to know
They call it Xanadu
And now, open your eyes and see, what we have made is real
We are in Xanadu
A million lights are dancing and there you are, a shooting star
Xanadu, Xanadu, now we are here in Xanadu
Now that I'm here, now that you're near in Xanadu
Xanadu, your neon lights will shine... for you, XANADU
