“Best vacation ever!!!”

I stayed at the Pelican Bay at Lucaya hotel from January 12-16, 2012. My fiance and I were there on a scouting trip for potential venues for our wedding. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, our stay was nothing short of perfect. The staff were friendly, attentive, thorough, and on point at all times. Each day we were treated as though we were V.I.P. guests; our every need and inquiry was attended to in a timely manner and with a polite attitude and kind demeanor from each staff member. The staff- from the front desk agents, to the bell captain, to the house keeping and restaurant staff- were always friendly, willing to assist, and always appeared to be concerned with how each guest was enjoying their stay.

The hotel grounds are magnificent. Its is obvious that cleanliness and comfort are a priority at this hotel. Each day, our gorgeous waterview room was cleaned in a timely manner and with precision. All of the facilities in our room worked the way they should. Overall, the property is well maintained.

The food at the hotel is delicious and of good quality. We chose to have each meal at the hotel or at the restaurant on the hotel grounds, Sabor. Each item we ate was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. The menus offer a diverse array, which made it easy to stay at the hotel for each meal without becoming bored. Our wedding planner arranged to have a tasting for our wedding menu; each dish sampled was crafted with fine, fresh ingredients and obvious care. The presentation and flavor of the food was equally fabulous.

To all the BRIDES out there looking for a destination wedding location- LOOK NO FURTHER, PELICAN BAY IS THE PERFECT VENUE TO HOST YOUR WEDDING!! Wedding planner Marva Munroe met with us several times during our visit to help us envision the plans for our big day. She was knowledgeable, organized, and friendly, which helped to put out nerves and concerns at ease. Once we met with Marva, our hearts were set on Pelican Bay as our wedding location, though we had visited two other hotels for consideration as possible venues. Marva is on point and incredibly accommodating, and when you are a bride, these are the must-have characteristics that you would seek in a wedding planner. We are beyond excited for our wedding and can rest easily knowing Marva is there to handle all the details of our wedding.

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel and its staff. If you find yourself looking to stay in the Bahamas, your choice should be easy - choose this hotel!!!!!! It is a gem that offers a unique Bahamian experience that you won't soon forget. I know we won't!! THANK YOU PELICAN BAY STAFF!!!

I stayed at this hotel January 5 thru 8, 2012. I am writing to say that though the hotel was decent, it is lacking a lot of amenities that a "great"hotel should have. The first room i stayed in (342) didn't even have flat screen tv's. Free internet should be provided. No stove or stove top. I didn't even have eating utensils in the room. The hotel website advertised a live music on saturday night. There was none. There was suppose to be a dj on friday night. There was none. It was not that much different than a Holiday Inn or any other 3 star hotel, and even some of those offer complimentary breakfast and had better and more updated facilities. I've stayed at the resort on Taino Beach and it was 100 times better. For $250 per night (that's resort fees and taxes included) there is a lot of room for improvement. The rooms are outdated. The furniture was not clean and the floors were not swept. The shower head in room 342 was disgusting. I would neither stay again or recommend this hotel to anyone else. I travel frequently to freeport and though this is one of the most expensive hotels it was by far not the best. The whole experience was far less that what i expected.

Dear Sayt,

As I stated in my email to you when you sent this email to our Reservations Department, we humbly apologize for the unpleasant stay you experienced during your visit, You declined speaking to me verbally and never acknowledged my email regarding your review.

As stated in my reply to you: 1. We are not marketed on our website or in the marketplace as a “resort” destination. We are marketed as a hotel that is not on the beach, but rather on the bell channel of the marina, therefore we will not have all of the amenities as a resort should have. 2. We provide a complimentary business center with complimentary internet access, unfortunately this does not include wireless. 3. We have listed on our website that for the suites we provide Kitchen nook with hammered-copper sink, microwave oven, we have never advertised that we have a full stove top. 4. Silverware is readily available upon request. 5. We consistently provided a live band every Saturday last year, but are currently restructuring the entertainment at the restaurant. My apologies if this was not removed, but I was unable to find it on our website. There was also no scheduled DJ for the friday night you spoke. You never provided me with the source of that information, therefore I can only respond with the information that I'm aware of. 6. We have started since last year upgrading our suites with flat screens, 30 rooms has already been completed.

Pelican Bay as a high standard of cleanliness and the discrepancies you found were immediately addressed by our housekeeping department. The quality of our product and the service to our guest is extremely important to us and we sincerely apologize that it was not up to par.

Your feedback no matter how negative or positive is extremely valuable to us. We will certainly do what is necessary to put measures in place to prevent and lessen discrepancies in the future.

The state rooms are very nice. The buffet breakfast is very dissapointing and very expensive. In fact due to a reservation issue with how old a child is I was short changed an included breakfast that management refused to budge on. There are no activities and this hotel and you need to use a public beach with is not very good. Close proximity to the Luyacan market place is a plus.

Room Tip: state room worth the added cost.

Dear Rog735p,

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent stay with us! I apologize that our breakfast product was not to your liking. If you would like to share further information regarding how it was handled I would be happy to contact you. I am not aware of what took place but our age policy for children is that all children under the age of 12 eat free.

Pelican Bay Hotel is not marketed as a resort where you would find that activities are planned for guests, but thanks for pointing it out to us. It is definitely a suggestion that we should give some thought. As for beach access, you are correct! Guest are provided with a ferry boat access to taino beach that leaves every hour or you can walk or be transported to the beach across the street at your leisure.

Your feedback, regardless of the negative or positive impact it may bring is certainly important to us and we will certainly do our best to make changes moving forward where applicable.

“Great rooms, terrible breakfast buffet”

The suite room at Pelican Bay was gorgeous and extremely comfortable. The designers made really unique and tasteful choices for the space, including the furniture and fixtures, the view from the balcony was awesome, the housekeeping was immaculate, and the desk staff were very courteous. The biggest drawback of this hotel was the breakfast service, which was sparse, inadequate and undependable. Items in the buffet would run out and not be replaced for an hour or more, even after a request was made, and some days ordinary items like jam and fruit wouldn't be there at all. We had the feeling that the hotel was trying to control costs by adding fresh food to the breakfast buffet only very slowly, which left a bad taste in our mouths--no pun intended.

“Great, relaxing vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Lucaya. Our stay at Pelican Bay started out just ok, but got much better. We originally booked a standard room. I knew from other reviews that it would just be basic, but figured it was ok since we probably wouldn't spend a ton of time in the room itself anyhow. Plus, I'm usually not too picky and not a complainer. When we got there, the standard room was pretty much what I was expecting - slightly worse. I was ok with it, but to be honest, pretty disappointed, even though I knew what I was getting into. The room was clean, but it was really outdated and small and not super comfortable (bathroom was tiny, shower/bath looked univiting, 1 wicker chair to sit in, air conditioner was super loud). It reminded me of a Super 8. I decided to see about upgrading to the Waterside State room. It was pretty inexpensive (well worth it!) and almost like a totally different resort. It had beautiful furniture, a nice spacious bathroom, separate bedroom, a great balcony with wonderful view, etc. So we only stayed in the standard room one night and spent the remaining 3 nights in the Suite. I was so happy we changed rooms. I would definitely recommend this to others who are on the fence. The rest of the resort itself was lovely. 3 pools (although all were freezing cold), a great restaurant and bar, nice people at the front desk and the water taxi to Taino beach was great. Super easy and convenient and the beach over there was beautiful. The Neptune pool was nice in the morning because it got sun. It was supposedly heated, but felt freezing like the other pools to me. It had a nice swim up bar, but the bar was closed up. Too bad. Probably the best thing about this resort is the location. You can walk to everything in the Marketplace in minutes. I would go back to this place in a minute and will recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Upgrading to the suites are absolutely the way to go. You will be disappointed with the standard ro...

Dear Madisonsara,

Thanks for providing such a thorough review of your recent stay with us. I must agree with you that some of our waterside standard rooms are in much need of updating and we are currently working toward that goal, however this does not reflect our full compliment of waterside rooms. We certainly apologize for the bad first impression that you received, but it is certainly not indicative of the level of service and happiness we strive to deliver to all of our guest when they arrive.

I am extremely happy that you were able enjoy our waterside state rooms (suites), they are truly a favourite among many! Thanks for informing me of the temperature of our Neptunes Pool. I have already followed up with our Maintenance department since reading your post and it has been addressed. We apologize that this was not up to standard during your stay.

Please note that your feedback is greatly appreciated by our Management and staff. These reviews keep us "in the know" with our property and highlight our weak areas that need improve and the areas where we are doing well.

We thank you again and we look forward to your return to our beautiful island of Grand Bahama and our hotel.
