“Great hotel, incredible resort - but expensive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

My husband and I and our 2 children (ages 14 and 11) recently spent 8 nights at Atlantis in the Coral Towers. I will divide the review into 2 parts - a review of the Coral Towers and a review of Atlantis over all.

Coral Towers: This is a really beautiful hotel with a lovely lobby area, dolphin statues and fountains. We had the added bonus of being there just before Christmas and the lobby was decorated beautifully with Christmas trees, lights and garlands.

Our room was spacious and modern, attractive and comfortable. We loved the location - while it was a bit of a hike from the lobby, we had a lagoon with sharks in it beneath our balcony and enjoyed sitting there watching the sharks swim around,

We really liked the location of the Coral Towers. While it was a bit of a walk to Aquaventure, we were right next to the Marina Village with several shops and restaurants, we had the free movie theatre in our lobby area, easy beach access and we were right next to the library with 15 minutes per day per person complimentary internet usage.

I took the time to walk around to all the Atlantis hotels, and would choose either the Coral Towers or the Royal Towers if we ever return. The Beach Towers were fine, but lacking in the "wow" factor and the Cove and the Reef were beautiful, but a bit removed from the action.

Atlantis: Atlantis is an incredible place, in my opinion it is right up there with cruising and Disney parks as a top family vacation. The resort is beautiful, staff were mostly friendly and helpful, the waterpark and the aquariums are awesome - especially the way they incorporate the two with the waterslides that go through the sharks! We really enjoyed all of the pools, hanging out in Marina Village and making use of the free movies.

I will reiterate what everyone else has said about Atlantis being very expensive - sometimes ridiculously so. Some of the nicer restaurants were charging $50+ for a steak - and then another $8 for a baked potato to go with it, There is an additional charge for many things that are often included at nice resorts such as kids club, access to the gym and room refrigerators. However, we went into it knowing this - so no unpleasant shock.

One thing that I had been unaware of is the fact that there are no self-service laundry facilities at Atlantis. Instead, they want you to use their laundry service which is expensively priced per item. This was not an option for us as we are a family of 4 who had already been traveling for a week prior to Atlanis, and just our underwear alone would have added up to $100 using their laundry service! So be aware, if you need to do laundry, do it before or after Atlantis.

We did find that the poolside lunch items were fairly reasonable in price, especially the value meals that would include a wrap, burger, hotdog or sandwhich with a refillable drink and a bag of chips for under $10. Cocktails in the yard glasses seemed to be better value than the regular cocktails in cups. More reasonably priced places to eat at night included the pizzeria, Johnny Rockets, the barbecue restaurant, Bimini Road and Anthony's across the street from Atlantis.

We also ate at Fish Fry in Nassau one night and really enjoyed it - much better value than Atlantis. We had Quiznos sandwhiches from the shopping centre across the road another night. Unfortunately, we found the people working at Quiznos to be very rude, abrupt and unpleasant - so can't really recommend that. At the little shopping centre across the road, you can buy water, soft drinks and snacks for much cheaper than at Atlantis.

Definitely make the time to look through the Dig and the other aquariums and to attend some of the aquarium feedings and talks. Try all the slides, spend time at all the pools and take some time to just walk all over the resort - it really is pretty spectacular!

We also went to Nassau on 2 different days and did Segway, the straw markets, the Pirate Museum, Hard Rock Cafe, Adastra Gardens and Fish Fry - all were enjoyable.

My family would unanimously recommend Atlantis to other families looking for a fun and unique holiday.

Room Tip: We enjoyed having a room that overlooked the shark lagoon.

“Truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this resort”

I planned this trip totally last minute so I didn't have huge expectations other than looking forward to a nice place (we had been on the property many years ago after they first opened) that both my husband and I and our kids (13 and 11) would enjoy that would only take a couple of hours to get to (direct flight!). We paid for 3 nights and got one free. We've been to the Bahamas before (Nassau and Grand Bahamas) so we didn't even plan on leaving the property during our 4 night stay.

We left snow/ice at BWI, traveled on an empty flight (poor folks who missed their connections due to weather) and arrived just over 2 hours later to drizzle/clouds! What?!?! The next morning we woke up to blue skies and the weather was awesome the rest of our stay (80, low humidity, nice breeze - yeah!!).

The resort is gorgeous - yes, you can see the age in the original part of the resort but clearly they are revamping it bit by bit. We stayed at Coral Towers, - newly opened Virgils barbeque was here and beautiful inside and the newly revampted BLU pool was our most favorite (we went there in the afternoons around 3-5 to enjoy the DJ cranking out tunes that both me and the kids enjoy!) There are some fishy smells around the fish areas...

Yes, it's expensive - if you can't afford it or if it's going to be a "trip of a lifetime" you may be dissapointed. We travel a lot (and I have many reviews to back that up - vs. people who claim to be "world travelers" and yet have only 1 negative review to their name?!?!) and we were truly impressed with how well-run the resort is. I can only imagine how much it cost to maintain the property so umm...yeah, you are going to pay for it one way or another (think cost of popcorn at the movies...that's how they run the business!). But seriously, I never paid $7 for a cup of coffee - a medium cappucino and a large coffee was $7.70 total each day...you'll pretty much pay that at any Starbucks hotel and it was just 8 floors down from my room each morning!
$10 frozen drinks ($7 virgin coladas) - yeah, again pretty standard. But they were good (and I'm picky).
We did pre-arrange airport pickup from Fergies (mentioned on TripAdvisor) and she took us to a liquor store (rum, wine) and grocery stop (fruit, snacks) on the way.

We debated between booking Coral and Royal Towers and am so glad we chose Coral - I really like to have a balcony to sit on in the morning and the location was great (close enough to the waterpark, favorite pool and closest to the Marina area). The room and bathroom were very large, we never heard a noise, beds were comfortable.
My daughter did rave about Royal Towers lobby being more dramatic everytime we walked through though! Our 7th floor view of the pool/lagoon/ocean was beautiful. I paid for terrace view and requested a high floor - that but I'm guessing we were upgraded so this was a wonderful surprise.

Had dinner 2x at The Cove - a beautiful, new, zen-like property - maybe if it were just my husband and I?
Yes, there is A LOT OF WALKING. Personally, I love that aspect - there were many different ways to go - always something beautiful to see...sharks, turtles, waterfalls, pools, rope bridges, etc.

Waterpark was awesome - we really enjoyed this as a family...4 days of this was plenty for us. Even on days you could tell the cruise ship passengers were there, it was not at all crowded during our stay and there were never any lines. Probably wouldn't come here for Spring Break - but we prefer a more laid back, relaxed vacation without hoards of people and kids!

We settled in by the grotto pool in the a.m.- waterfalls made it relaxing...plenty of chairs, umbrellas, and palm trees for shade. Those poor lifeguards must have been bored out of their minds - some of the pools were almost empty! Majority of people seemed to be around the Mayan Temple pool (esp w/younger kids). There were always plenty of towels and chairs....I cannot imagine not being able to find a quiet lounging spot even on the most crowded of days...

STAFF IS AMAZING - professional, courteous, nice, talkative, friendly...I cannot say enough positive things...from the Starbucks staff in the morning to the life guards at the pool to wait staff and everyone in between. Anyone who says that staff was rude, I can only imagine how that person was behaving.
Note - if you are coming with young kids THEY MUST BE 48 inches to ride the non-kid rides (I witnessed several parents annoyed and arguing with staff over this - the staff remained professional...) If your child is right at 48 inches I heard them say you can get a special wrist band so they wont' keep checking them at each ride. I guess it doesn't matter at the splasher's kids pool/slide area though.

Food was very good - yes, expensive. We did not do the dining plan so you'll need to factor this into the total cost of your stay or you will be shocked. We ate breakfast bars/coffee/fruit in our room each morning. - ate at the casual pool/beach bars for lunch each day (around $60ish with frozen drink each) and dinner out each night.
Carmines (HUGE portions - probably best for parties of 6 or more but my husband/son at the leftovers for breakfast the next morning). Beautifully designed restaurant (they all are!) $180 for the 4 of us w/wine for 2.
Mesa Grill - most expensive (yes, $50 for a steak for my 11 y/o...would never do this at home - lol!) $280.
One night took the kids for pizza (surprisingly good and $7 for a huge slice) and ice cream at the marina then hubby and I went out later to Seaglass at the Cove for wine and tapas (very limited menu but what we ordered was goo) and it's gorgeous (it was almost empty). Waitress was awesome.

Virgil's $140 - very good (nachos - delicious) and again family style but the portions seemed better for the 4 of us (no leftovers!) and another great waiter.
Loved walking through the DIG (after dinner and during the day). Never went on the beach except once to feel the ocean - which was too cold for us - but the Cove beach was very pretty.
We didn't do any activities because we've done them before (dolphin swim, stingray, diving, etc.). Stopped and dropped some money in the casino one evening, but that's really not our thing.
They were showing good movies each day (free!) but we never went. We were exhausted and in bed each night at 10! Looked like they had other activies for younger kids and CRUSH for older kids (my kids probably would have gone one night if they were both the right age).

My only annoyances - having to pay $15 for the fitness center (I did this 2 days) but there was plenty of equipment and it was nice. Had a massage before we left home so I didn't try the spa this time but it looked nice.

Also, the fact that the pools closed at 5:00 (and they start cleaning up towels/chairs etc. at 4:30). We really like to relax by the pool in the evening before we get showered and ready for dinner. Just having one pool stay open later would have been nice. There isn't a whole lot of lighting around the pools/water features at night so I'm guessing they want guests to be indoors (spending money in the casinos or bars/restaurants!)

All in all -a great time! This is a terrific family resort and it's as well run as any we've been to. Will be interesting to see what happens after the Cable Beach area is revitalized - how it will impact Atlantis. The new part of the airport is beautiful too (out door seating areas are a plus)...supposed to be completed this fall.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor - even if you don't pay for water view you'll probably have one if you...

“Fantastic... Pricey though!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

The Atlantis resort is the first vacation that my wife and I went on that was not all inclusive. Be warned everything costs a fortune there! It is impossible to have a dinner without spending at least $100 and the drinks are extremely expensive. (A corona costs $7.50 and any type of cocktail is over $10.) The only other negative thing that I have to say is that I don't even understand why they have the Seagrapes resturant. It is seriously bad, so bad that we left and asked for our money back... which they gave us with no arguement because we had just go there and it is a buffet. Go to Marketplace. Slightly more expensive but the food is way better. The rest of the resturants we went to were fantastic.

We got a basic room which we typically do on vacations as you don't spend a lot of time there. The room was nice and big and clean. Nothing to write home about but no complaints either which is about we expected.

The resort itself and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. The aquariums are fantastic. The casino is very impressive and the landscaping is amazing. Super clean too. The pools and water slides as well as the lazy river are top notch. All of the water slides are really fun the pools are large and the lazy river is great. I could go on forever about how much I enjoyed all of the amenities but I don't have the time. I really did love it though!!!

We travelled with our 2 year old son. He had a great time too. Loved all of the fish tanks and the activities that there were to do. He even loved just walking around the hotel at night. It is huge with lots of interesting fountains and things to do. The only thing that I would warn people about is that there is lots of walking! The place is very very big. Bring a stroller if you have an infant. Also you will find yourself carrying your stroller up lots of stairs. Well worth it though!!

The staff were amazing. I found that they were very pleasant, and uniquely to this resort that their good will was genuine. They would all stop and smile and talk to our son. The waiters were all very eager to help you with whatever you needed. On top of that everyone who stayed there seemed to be happy too. Great atmosphere.

We just got back and can't wait to go again. Just don't go thinking that things are cheap when you get there. Better re-mortgage the house if you are a heavy drinker!

Room Tip: Don't worry about the room. So much to do you won't care.

“overall great place, esp for kids.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

just back, here's the deal - if u're looking for a place to bring the kids, and don't mind spending the money, well worth it. between the beach, pools and fish tanks, there's plenty to keep them busy.

there are however a few things to point out. in no way deal-breakers, more just things i would have liked to know.

-if u bring a stroller (and i suggest u do), u'd think there would be a lot more ramps given just how kid-friendly the place is. so be prepared to either go the extra mile for a ramp (sometimes literally!) or know u'll be lugging that thing up some stairs.

-for some reason, u have to walk thru the loud and sometimes smoky casino in order to get from one major tower to another.

-we stayed @ coral towers since we were less concerned w/ fancy and more interested in upgrading to a larger suite. personally felt it was the right choice. i know there are a lot of reviews about the water situation - have to say, pressure was weak, and water wasn't steaming hot, but the lack of water completely was (thankfully) fixed by the time we got there.

-the hotel makes it clear the vendors on the beach are in no way associated w/ the hotel, and that's good to know, cause they can be a bit aggressive. so just smile and say no thanks, they'll pass on by. was a bit surprised to see that some made it onto the property, pretty sure offering me drugs. so word to the wise, stick w/ any of the very friendly staff wearing Atlantis-branded shirts or name tags and u'll be in great hands.

-the food is fine, nothing to write home about, but u're not there for that. least we weren't. we didn't do the meal plan, big fan of Virgil's as well as places by Marina Village, except the Pizzeria.

On a final note, the customer service was excellent - everyone seemed like they were there to help, and have a genuine interest in making sure u're having a good time. that meant a lot.

“Hotel needs updating for price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

The Atlantis Coral Tower rooms need updating for the price. Beds were uncomfortable and we did not have a hot shower for 4 days after repeated calls to maintenance. We needed to run the water for 20 minutes before the water was warm enough to withstand taking a shower. There was a water leak in the hallway right outside our room that left the carpet soaking wet and a musty smell. Only on our last night did they offer us another room but what is the point at that time in your stay? The adjoining room features make it easy for you to hear any sound your neighbors are making. The beach was just ok and the water park was the best feature. I would not recommend this hotel.
