“Perfect for our Group of Friends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

I stayed at the Harbour Club and Marina with five of my close friends to celebrate my 30th birthday over a long weekend. The suite was perfect for us with two decent-sized bedrooms and a pullout couch - all clean and comfy - no major frills, but good AC and all in working order. The kitchen/dining area and balcony provided a nice group space and we cooked several meals together. The pool was a pleasant place to sit and swim and we had some great sunset views from our balcony in the evening. This isn't a fancy place, but it's clean, friendly, personable, and very affordable compared to most huge hotels in the area. We rented a minivan which made transportation very easy (for trips to market, etc.). We walked/jogged to nearby Cabbage Beach about 15 minutes down a couple of roads. Nearby Columbus Tavern has nice views, but the food is a bit pricey for the portions. The office staff was very helpful as well and even mailed me a necklace I had left in the bathroom. I would go back for sure and recommend the Harbour Club and Marina if you're looking for something basic, pleasant, cost-effective and near to Atlantis (a short drive away).

“Do not recommend this resort”

The room was OK, nothing spectacular. The office staff was not very knowledgeable or helpful / friendly. They state on their website that they have a shuttle that runs at your convenience, this is not true. The shuttle makes 2 runs per day to the Straw market in Nassau. These are at 10 am and 4 pm. If there was a shuttle going to their sister property, which is where the beach access is, I did not see it. The only way to really get around is by taxi, which is not cheap. They also state that there are bikes that can be used, yet when we asked to use them at 5 pm, we were told that they were 'locked up for the night' even though the office is open until 8 pm. Guess the staff was just too lazy to walk to the other side of the building and open the door for us. We also talked to the staff about going to the casino in Nassau. They told us the hotel was closed for renovations but the casino was open. Wrong, the casino was also closed. More money spent to get there and back and it was not even open. They do a food run on Mondays, but charge $7.00 per person to bring you to the store!! Maybe a little store onsite would be a good thing. Not even a soda machine is onsite. We asked what we should do or see while there, again the staff was not much help. They fumbled thru the brochers and said things like 'maybe you'd like this'. I can look thru a brouchure myself...............
The whole place is made of concrete and tiles so all noise echos thru the rooms, hallways. We were distrubed several nights by the people above us, as we could hear every step they took and then when the fight started... and doors slamming - it was a sleepless night. When I suggested that rugs be put in the rooms to help deaden the noise, I was asked if I wanted rugs in my room, I said I wanted them in the room above me. Why put the only people in the place, on top of each other?? I was also asked if I called security about the fight, said I had not since I didn't know they were available 24 x 7. A few nights later a party was going on with new people above us, until 3 am. Called the # on the phone for security and was not connected. Tried the office and was given another number to call. Tried that one and got an answering machine. Guess there really is not security available.
Highlights: We overlooked the harbor, which was pretty, though we could not see a sunset since there were buildings blocking the view. The pool was pretty, though the hot tub was disgusting (could not see 5 inches down) and the housekeeper was very pleasant. Happy hour at the tavern was nice.

“I would never go back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

We went expecting a junior suite with a full kitchen and bedroom. We got a small room with 2 double beds and a sleeper sofa, microwave and small refrigerator. The hair dryer fell off the wall when we tried to use it and the mirror was just barely hanging on the wall. They said they had beach chairs but did not. The management said they would take us where we wanted to go but the employees would not take us using the excuses like they were low on gas or were busy. They did not seem to be busy because the pool umbrellas were never in working order and the hair dryer they put back on the wall never worked. The maid service was good. We could get clean towels when we asked for them but they only changed our sheets once during our 7 day stay.

“A Peaceful Vacation Without Kids!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

We loved our visit at PIHC&M. We agree with the previous reviews, that it is clean and out-dated bathroom/kitchen counters. But everything was well maintained. Yes-Taxi cab drivers do not know where it is. Tell them at Columbus Tavern, at the gate to the golf course. Columbus Tavern is NOT really a bar, as it sounds. It is an open-air resturant with a bar. Food IS very expensive in the Bahamas! The meal at Columbus Tavern was the least expensive. approx $66. 15% gratutity is always added to the check, regardless of the service. But tourism is their trade and we did not have a problem with service. The management and employees of PIHC&M were not very welcoming at 1st. But after you got used to their behavior & joked with them, we were treated much better. Michelle, the manager, comes across "brusk", but is friendlier, once she gets to know you. Yvette, her assistant, was very helpful with our many questions. Peter and Fillmore were our shuttle drivers. They took us to town & on the grocery run. We learned alot about the Bahamian culture on our trips with these two guys. Take some groceries with you. We took cereal, poptarts, and snacks. Groceries are VERY expensive. Everything has to be imported to the islands and increases the cost! As an example, we paid over $5 for 1/2 gallon of milk. Soft drinks were about $7.50 a six pack. Go prepared to pay a lot for groceries. We went prepared, knowing it would be more than home! Cabbage Beach is beautiful. Use sunscreen. We got burnt, even with an umbrella! The walk to Atlantis is great. It is not short. But we walked it several times, rather than pay the $9 minimum cab fare! Don't waste your $ renting a car. There is posted speed limits. But they drive FAST, FAST, FAST. slam on the brakes, pass with opposing traffic, and pull out in front of other traffic! Take advantage of your time there. See all the sights, visit downtown several limes to see it all. We made reservations for a dinner cruise (loved it) and a glass-bottom boat tour (it was in dry dock-disappointed) before leaving US. But it was not necessary. Michelle can arrange trips for you. Brochures are available in the office. Also there is a tour/travel sights office inside the front entrance of Atlantis. We took 600+ pictures! Would love to go back someday!

“Good, clean self catering”

Agree with much of the other reviews.
1. When arriving, tell the cabby you are going to "Columbus Tavern". No one has heard of the hotel.
2. Its a time share set-up. Our room was large and well equipped. Decor was dated but acceptable.
3. When making a reservation, make sure you ask about extra costs. We were stung by a cleaning charge, a night energy surcharge and taxes. The base room rate was cheap so the extras were not a huge issue, but it would have been good to know about these up front. Extras were $10 a night for cleaning, same for energy plus 14% tax on the room rate.
4. Location is at the far end of the island. This was good for us as it meant it was quiet. 5 mins walk to cabbage beach and 15/20 mins to the village.
5. We borrowed bikes to get around (free). There are limited number and they are interesting design, but worth doing to help get about.
6. The grocery store on paradise island is *really* expensive. Bahamas are expensive, but this shop is a total rip off. Staff are grim as well - go into Nassau.
7. Other reviews mentioned a water shuttle from the harbour to Nassau. This was not available when we were there (being repaired?), but there was a van available.
8. Slightly disappointed that we did not have an ocean view. We were looking into the tavern! However, noise from the tavern did not go on too late and in general it was quiet.
9. Pool area very pleasant.
10. Food at the tavern was good, and would recommend going during happy hour (5-7pm).

Overall, would recommend if you don't like going to the mega resorts. Its not luxury but offers good value for money. We'd go again.
