“Atlantis Access!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed at the Comfort Suites January 20-24th. The hotel is clean, rooms are a decent size, and the free breakfast does the trick. We ate by the pool instead of inside, better setting. The best part is the access to the Atlantis. It is across the street, maybe a three minute walk. The Atlantis is gigantic and beautiful! Breathtaking views! Very clean and the staff were all so friendly. I will say, not very handicap accessible though.
FOOD:
We brought a soft cooler and went to the convenient store across the street by Quiznos and bought pop and water to bring (the cans are $1 each). The pop at the Atlantis is $4.00 each and the bottles of water are $3.75. We also brought snacks from the convenient store (even though the Cheese Its were $7.49 a box!). The food is just as expensive as they say. A burger value meal is $11 and includes a drink and fries (not terrible). We paid $7 for a ben & jerry's small ice cream bar. The buffets for breakfast were $27 for an adult. They do add a 15% gratuity to everything you buy. Marino's Pizza is the place to go. The pizza is good. The large is $37 and will easily feed a family of 5 for dinner. We brought our cooler of drinks and sat outside by the marina to eat our pizza. It was perfect! We also ate at the deli which was very good. A little pricy, but not as bad as the other restaurants there.
Inside the Atlantis you can use your room card (or a credit card) from comfort suites to buy food-no cash accepted. In the stores you cant use your comfort suites room key though.
We tried Anthony's for lunch across the street where the kids eat free (you need vouchers from comfort suites). Food was good, decent prices for lunch comparable to TGI Fridays or Chili's. We went in for dinner one night and the prices were pretty steep-we actually got up and left!
BEACH:
The beach is just ok. Nothing special at all. It is a public beach and there are vendors there to sell you stuff. You can also rent wave runners from the locals on the beach.
POOLS:
Tons of pools! All are zero depth entry. The one by the beach towers was the warmest by far and the least crowded.
SLIDES:
The water slide that you go down in a tube go thru the shark tank was very cool. You go down slow enough to see everything. The one next to it goes straight down and thru the shark tank too, but you're going too fast to see anything!
The current (fun lazy river) was our favorite!
SHOPPING:
Lots of high end stores in Atlantis and in the Marina Village. Nice jewlery, Gucci, Fendi, high end designers. Also the Atlantis Signature stores where you can get anything and everything Atlantis you want!
We took a cab ($4 per person) to Nassau for a little shopping for souveniers. Went to Senor Frogs for dinner which is always a good time. It is right on the ocean where the cruise ships dock so the view is pretty.
EXCURSIONS:
We took the kids to Blue Lagoon Island for a beach day. Took a catamaran from the pier (5 min walk from the hotel) for about 20 minutes passing all of the mansions on the ocean. The island had lunch, drinks, hammocks, floating mats, and jumpy slides in the water. You could also swim with the dolphins or sea lions for an extra charge of course. We didnt swim with them, but went over and were able to see them all up close.
There are 2 small shops there and indoor nice restrooms. Plenty of lounge chairs and shade. Beautiful island! Relaxing day for us and the kids(ages 9,11, and 14) were wiped out!
OTHER STUFF:
Getting through the airport was a breeze. It is all being renovated right now. We had a shuttle thru our package with majestic tours to the hotel. It was about a 30-35 minute ride because there was traffic getting thru downtown Nassau.
The wi-fi is free and worked very well in our rooms. We called home with a calling card that we bought across the street at the connvenient store ($10 for 40 minutes to the US). The hotel does charge a $.50 connection fee for each call.
I would choose to stay at the comfort suites again vs the beach towers at the Atlantis. We saved a ton of money in the breakfast and wi-fi alone.
Great vacation! Would love to come back and stay for a few weeks!

“for the money stay at Atlantis”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

problems, problems - after spending 1.5 hours in the cab from the airport, we waited in line for 30 minutes until they finally got another person at the desk. Check in was fine, but extra charges - Energy fee of $12.95 per person per day, houskeeping of $5.00 per person, per day?? what is an energy fee?? Room was fine, AC smelled like mildew, rest was ok. That night - no hot water on the whole floor so went to bed without showers, called in the AM for solution, was told wait 30 min. After 60 min no hot water, so repacked & changed rooms. New room - waiting, waiting for Maintenance to fix the safe as someone who left locked it. Atlantis - lots of walking to Atlantis and after 2 hours of directions from many different people, finally found where we have to get Comfort suite armbands to use the facilities there, In the lobby of the royal towers down the stairs. Obviously they want it to be time consuming so people dont do it. Also, you have to do this EVERYDAY! everyone on staff at Comfort Suites is very friendly but as a frequent traveler (weekly!) I guess other countries do not realize the value of "comfort". IF you need 2 beds, good luck they are very small doubles. Also, per the reviews there was supposedly a grocery across the street so you could have things in the refrig in the room - this grocery was SUPER expensive - like $7.00 for a jar of Ragu and not clean. There was a quiznos across the street but closes at 7 pm. The hotel has a small restaurant with sandwiches which were reasonable. Drinks (sodas, water, tea, non-alcoholic) are $3.75-$4.00. In ordering water at Atlantis we assumed it would be free - NOT - $3.75 per bottle). But the hotel restaurant does have free water which is not bottled.
This hotel would be fine for small children as breakfast is free (not great food as seems to be a problem with Comfort Suites anyways as they always have the same thing) but if you are a frequent traveler used to things that work and small conveniences stay at atlantis - you wont have to walk miles and things in the rooms work. Also, internet reviews says cab fare is $26 from airport - also NOT - was quoted $38, charged $40 not including tip. Probably should have rented a car and could have driven to better restaurants. However, one thing was true here is that there is a poolside grill between the mayan slides and the power tower that is reasonable. Burgers are $7, other sandwiches between $8-$9 and includes chips & drink so for this area very good. We bought a large gallon jug of water at a local tourist shop for $1.95 and filled smaller bottles from airport to carry in our beach bag. This will save you a TON if you dont want to spend that much for drinks in the Atlantis area.
Bottom line - If I come again I will stay at Atlantis just for convenience if nothing else

“Great location, Amazing Staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

THis is our second stay at this hotel. We recently returned from a 3 night stay and just had to write about the outstanding service we received. First off the location was ideal for the two days of meetings that we attended at the Atlantis. Given the location of our room we were nearer to the conference room than many of our colleagues who actually stayed at the Atlantis!

On the last day of our stay I tried to buy a bottle of water from the dispensing machine but with no luck. After inserting the required amount the out of stock sign flashed. I went to the lobby but the agents were all busy as it was checkout time. We explained our predicament to Jonathan the Bellman on duty and I was blown away when he reached into his pocket and gave me back my $2 that the machine had taken. I told him that I could not take his money to which he just looked at me and then said, wait here I am coming back. Jonathan then proceeded to run across to the Atlantis Hotel next door and came back in no time with a bottle of water for me.

Having worked in the hotel industry for the past 20 years this is the sort of service that wows and delights! Jonathan is a star and should be acknowledged and rewarded for his amazing efforts. Every interaction with all other staff was outstanding. Kudos to the hard working Front Office staff, housekeeping and everyone that we encountered during our short stay.

Thank you to the management for shaping and leading such an amazing team, well done everyone, we will certainly be recommending you and it goes without saying we will be back.

“Excellent customer service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

This is the third time I've stayed at this property. I come on business and this time I noticed a big difference in staffing levels. EVERYONE was very professional, extremely helpful and friendly. You couldn't walk by anyone in the corridor without them saying hello and smiling. The security guard noticed I was struggling with my bags and display case etc, and he helped me take my things all the way to the room with a friendly and helpful attitude.

The hotel is a bit of a maze and the signage could be a little bit better as you have to sometimes walk down corridors to find a sign to show you which direction you are heading but after a couple of days, you figure out the shortcuts to where you want to go. Breakfast was very good considering its free. Eggs, boiled eggs, two types of yoghurt, fresh fruit, sausages, bagels, breads, etc etc. I liked the fact that you also had a choice to eat inside off the lobby or out by the pool. Excellent idea. They are doing up the rooms and mine was pretty good. Some basic things like a missing light bulb on the dresser lamp was annoying but really small in the scheme of things.

A pleasant surprise to see that the new GM is really pushing customer service and I believe I heard that more upgrades will be done soon. This is excellent value and a good choice to stay instead of at Atlantis which is really over priced. You still use all the same facilities but are not paying ridiculous prices for internet, coffee, water etc. If I would go on holiday to Atlantis, I would certainly chose Comfort Suites over one of the hotels at Atlantis.

Kudos to all the staff for their helpful and pleasant attitudes. A real difference from the previous visits!!!

“Room gets you free entrance to Atlantis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We booked a room while on a stop over with Carnival Cruise line. For the price of a room, we got two adult and two children wristbands to Atlantis. This was cheaper than buying the Atlantis tickets at the resort or from the cruise.

I stayed here 2 years ago with a friend and we went to the Atlantis every day. We also listened to the timeshare and got a free snorkeling excursion. If you listen to the timeshare, go at lunch and you get a free lunch. (I'm all about the free, because everything is so expenisve in the Bahamas.)

The rooms are standard, but clean, and you get breakfast with the room. Atlantis is right next door, you just walk about a block and you are there. They give you an Atlantis towel after you check in at the resort and get your wristband.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street.
