“Great Transition From Out Islands to Reality”

I spent one night at ASTA after six days on Eleuthera. I wanted a place near the airport with a little character and style but not a completely bloated price, and this place more than met my expectations.

Unique location, beautiful wrap around porches with a number of potential spots to take in the views while sipping a drink or reading a book. Seriously lovely porch furniture.

The nearest beach is a bit small, but I was told the place has an agreement with another close by resort with a larger spread of sand. Honor bar system was a novelty and certainly made the whole experience more intimate. Dinner was good but not great.

I had a room facing the sea. Wonderful floors and carpets and lovely final touches. Couldn't figure out how to lock my balcony door. Water pressure, which had been quite low on Eleuthera, was quite better here.

Try lunch or dinner at Traveler's Rest, it's a totally manageable walk and their portions are generous.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the two rooms on the second floor facing the sea. 7 or 8.

“Great option near airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We were worried about making a connection back to the US after coming so we chose to be more relaxed about it and fly from Cat Island, spend the night in Nassau and hop on the International flight the next day. I'm glad we did this as it gave us a chance to slowly adjust back to reality (Nassau is definitely more chaotic then sparsely populated Cat) and have a final night of vacation. ASTA is a great option for people needing to overnight it in Nassau, a nice bookend to an Out Island trip. The complimentary shuttle to and from the airport makes it nice to not have to deal with taxis and such. The hotel is literally 3 minutes from the airport--it's great! We were promptly put in our room and hopped on the little bus to scope out downtown Nassau (it's about a 30 minute bus ride to the Straw market and all the other touristy attractions of downtown Nassau). I enjoyed the ride past the fish fry and admired the pretty water views. But, it was also nice to leave the chaos of downtown Nassau and head up to the relative quiet of ASTA's neighborhood. The hotel has a lovely deck to relax on in the afternoon. We had a few drinks and enjoyed the water views, chatting with the friendly hotel workers and a few other guests. The hotel offers dinner on the deck and there are two other options in walking distance (Traveler's Rest and Compass Pointe (though walking to CP at night was not the easiest walk--no sidewalks/on main street). Still, the whole stay was pleasant and easy. I will definitely use ASTA as a stopover in the future.

“Friendly and good value”

Picked it partly based on TA review, then recommended by friend who lives in Nassau. Very convenient for airport, great views from top of bluff, bit of a trek into town. Local buses are great fun and great value $1.25 fare to town! But service intermittent and not in evening. Rooms are really nice, good relaxed atmosphere, every friendly ..completely different experience to staying in a americanised resort style hotel. Didn't eat dinner there, kitchen not open every night. But travellers rest is 5 mins walk away and is fine, good bahamian dishes.

“Nice location, great staff, beach proximity and a very nice view”

Came for some sunny weather on January 2nd and stayed for a full 9 nights. Overall am very pleased with my hotel experience. Although we were unlucky with the weather in the first 3 days we were upgraded by the owner Chris to an Ocean view room free of extra charge and this was just one of the many generous things he did for us - great service indeed!

The 10 room hotel feels more like a Hampton rental, becomes cozy and quite personal. Chris helped with the smallest stuff like driving us to get the car from our rental and the other staffs gave us lifts as well to airports and for various errands. All were very nice and accomodating.
The open bar downstairs is built on an honesty system, which I liked (not because I used it wrongly) it screens well with the whole laid back atmosphere of the hotel.

The breakfast is ok without being anything out of this world but there are nearby restaurants like Compass Point which are excellent. Chris has also arranged for hotel guest to have free access to the beach at Compass point (500m away). It's a nice beach with max 10 persons/km - not saying it's the best in Bahamas but good enough.

Would advice to get a car rental though, because each ride into central Nassau is $20 altough there is a decently frequent bus for $1,5. A car is $50/day.

Only negative was the barking stray dogs (typical for bahamas). Who let the dogs out!!?? But with the car rental you will avoid them as they hang out near the shore line.

Enjoy a truly great hotel!

“A Great Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

My wife and I just spent a wonderful 3 nights and 4 days at A Stone's Throw Away on the western end of New Providence island in the Bahamas. The B&B sits on one of the highest bluffs on the island and the views are breathtaking all around the building (there is a great wraparound porch which provides 360 views). Our room was charming and inviting with a very comfortable bed. The staff are very attentive though it is important to keep in mind that it is a B&B, NOT a hotel, so do not expect hotel-level service. The location is quiet and off the beaten path (14 miles west of downtown Nassua) but a bus runs into town and back all day for $1.50 per person. The included breakfast was disappointing but everything else about ASTA was great. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: We had a garden view room which was fine.
