I spent 3 nights at here from Feb 3-6th. We did not do the all-inclusive package because we used hotel points to stay for free. That being said, we did have to pay for the food. The only downside to staying in the Bahamas is that the cabs are pricey. For 3 of us to go from the hotel to Atlantis, it cost $24. However, keep in mind that gas prices are upwards of $5.50 a gallon! The cabbies were pretty nice and helpful. Since we had to pay for our food, we did stay in at the Amici restuarant the first night. It was great! Yes, the food was in the $20 range, but for what we got, it was worth it. Also, a couple sitting next to us gave us a tip to mention an ad you got a free bottle of the house wine! SCORE! Our waiters were soooo friendly, they even did this whole musical thing for us with what looked like homemade instruments...we were all up dancing!!
This is food and a store within walking distance. If you go to the right of the hotel when you come out of it and walk no more than 1/2 to 1 mile, there are plenty of places to stop. We had breakfast at this cute little place with red umbrella's (i forget the name, but it is on the beach side of the street) and had an amazing omelet for $10, and the coffee was AMAZING! Further down was a Starbucks (but there is a Starbucks in the hotel casino) and a market. We went there to get bottles of water and stuff to mix with our alcohol we bought at the airport in the duty-free store! That saved us a lot of money! Drinks at the hotel were near $10 each! If you buy Rum or Vodka at the duty-free, you save yourselfs some cash, just ask the bar for a glass of ice and WALLA! you have your own drink for 1/2 the price!
As for the hotel, it is pretty nice. Nothing great. The rooms were clean, the grounds were clean. Early in the morning staff could be seen outside sweeping and even cleaning the beach from debri from to ocean. You are connected to the Wyndam hotel next door. They had a great outside eating area with pretty well priced food that was delicious!
As far as going to the local "Fish Fry", I highly suggest it. It was a bit shady for us girls to be on our own, but we found a quaint little place that served authentic Bahamian meals...AWESOME! Beers there were $3 each, pretty comparative to the States.
Overall, I enjoyed our stay. When it was all said and done, we had a great time. The staff was very helpful and gave us good advice. Just ask a waiter or barman where to go and they will point you in the right direction!
