“STAY AWAY FROM THE GRAYCLIFF”

I booked a one night room on the recommendation of Kamalame Cay where I had just visited. Upon arrival I realized the Hotel was not in a quiet area and requested a room in a quiet spot if possible. We were placed in the "Pool Cottage" in the back. We had a very overpriced dinner at the Restaurant that was not 4 Star by any means. When we arrived back in our room after 9:30 pm their was a party going on next door and it was so loud we couldn't even hear the TV. When I called the front desk to request another room they brought us inside the Hotel above the Restaurant. It was so loud! The noise from the piano bar and crowd lasted past midnight. This is not a Hotel! This a Restaurant claiming to have rooms. The bed was aweful and the price of dinner and the stay was out of range.
If you go to Nassau avoid this place! There are many other places to stay.

“Fading colonial grandeur”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2011

This hotel won't be to everyone's taste. The dining room and salon are charming old colonial style rooms and the large varnished floors creak and groan as you walk over them. The restaurant does formal dining. This is not the place for a quick meal- you have to go in the lounge to have a pre-prandial drink while you order, though to be fair you get moved into the restaurant pretty quickly if you don't want a cocktail. Food pretty good but not spectacular. Wine list much too long and annoyingly expensive. We stayed in one of the garden rooms. Unfortunately we didn't like our first room, which though excellent, was ruined by very loud air conditioning coming from the adjacent kitchens. So we got moved to another room which was a bit tired to be honest and somewhat gloomy- but quiet! So overall a bit of a mixed review. I liked it but at the same time I can't help feeling it needs a bit of an overhaul. Great pianist in the lounge though!

“Graycliff Hotel is a Amazing Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

I stayed at the Graycliff for two nights. The hotel is amazing. It was built by a pirate, bought by British Royalty and is not a Hotel, Restaurant and Humidor that makes their own cigars.

I loved the historic feel of the Graycliff. It's old and has a ton of character. Did you know the Graycliff has the 3rd largest privately owned wine collections in the world? I took a tour of the wine cellar and saw some things that would blow your mind. Oh, the cellar use to be the old prison when it was a government house! I touched a bottle of wine that was worth $220,000! Don't drop it!

The hotel is owned by a color Italian man name Enrico (spelling?). He is a fascinating person with some amazing stories.

I highly recommend the Graycliff is you are staying in Nassau. It's located right in the middle of town just 6 or 7 blocs from the docks.

cheers!

my brother was on a business trip in nassau and i tagged along to visit friends from a working stint i had in the bahamas a couple years ago. the one thing i requested , was dinner at greycliff. after hiking queen's staircase and all over the city one day, we arrived at graycliff before the lunch crowd to check it out. due to heat and humidity, although neatly dressed , we were in walking shorts. the blonde woman who greeted us could not shuffle us out the back door fast enough. despite trying to ask questions, we were handed brochures and repeatedly told" the gardens are out back. this way." needless to say, my appetite for greycliff vanished. neither my brother nor myself will subject ourselves to such rudeness again, nor will we be recommending it to anyone.

“Great”

This hotel/restaurant is absolutely great. We loved the room and the food/service. It is also nicely situated between oldtown and the fort/zoo.
