We have stayed here once before, in 2009, even in the exact same unit. Definitely there is a need for a little more upkeep on the paint and repairs, but it is still a very nice place. The lousy economy probably has a lot to do with the condition, as tourism is down everywhere and you can't replace and repair without income. The cost was the same in December 2011 as it was in December 2009, reasonable for the amount of room we had, the amenities, and the fabulous views. Every unit has a deck/porch, so you can eat al fresco or just relax outside watching the sun rise or set.
The location is quiet, just off Saltpond Inlet in the eastern part of St. John, close to great hiking and snorkeling. The kitchenette has pretty much anything you need to whip up a snack or quick meal, but don't expect a TV, hair dryer, clock, or radio. This is a getaway, not a resort. It is also not wheelchair accessible, there are lots of stairs so that they didn't pave over the hillside (which is alive with hermit crabs eager to eat whatever scraps you offer them so there is less waste in the trash). They do try to be eco-sensitive. They do have a few activities (I noticed yoga classes), and because two thirds of the island is national park, there are several things offered by the National Park System.
In miles it is not far from Cruz Bay, where the ferries carry you back and forth to St. Thomas where the airport is. But you will need a rental car to get here and to get around - the "taxis" on St. John are basically open trucks or vans with rows of seats in the back and a surrey on top. It takes about 40 minutes to drive the twisting hilly roads to get to Concordia from Cruz Bay, but it is worth it. There is a small restaurant on site that is decent, but also many other good restaurants within a few miles. Grocery shopping is better in Cruz Bay than at the local mini markets, but there are a few home stands and one better market in Cocoluba (south of Coral Bay on the way to Concordia).
