“Small place, huge reasons to stay here!”

We just got back from Bolongo :( We went with our 4 children (11, 9, 6 and 2) grandma and her husband. 8 of us total. What a blast!!! Yes, the rooms are dated and could use some updating, especially the bathroom, but it was clean. We are complete neat freaks, so coming from us means a lot! Within 2 days the whole staff knew us and were so friendly and accomodating. Laura, in the gift shop, set up our excursion to the British Isle of Tortola. It went so smoothly and was so much fun swimming with dolphins. O'Neal, Bolongo's own taxi driver was so nice, informative and always early to pick us up and drop us off. OK, and the "sand fleas" are fine, as long as you either go in during dusk and dawn, or use bug spray OR a tip from the fabulous bartenders....a little gin on your skin repels them ;) Our two boys, the youngest have sensitive skin and were just fine, since we did either option, go in or bug spray! Don't let people scare you away from this little gem! Food was great, drinks even better. The Ritz was just a little more expensive and the Marriott less, but we wouldn't even re-evaluate. Bolongo is the way to go! The beach and pool were NEVER crowded, you felt like you had your own little piece of the Carribean all to yourself. OH...and yes, IGGY's can get loud, fortunately for us, our rooms were beachfront, right by the pool, so we had absolutely no issues with noise, but if traveling with small children or light sleepers, I would request being farthest away. Thanks Grammie/Mom for an unforgettable vacation. We can't wait to go back to Bolongo! Winter 2013?!

“Quaint and Friendly Resort”

I had the opportunity to spend three wonderful days at the Bolongo Bay Resort on St Thomas in January. The staff and ownership are just wonderful. It is rare today, in the age of huge corporate resorts, to still meet and have genuine conversations with the owners, chef and even beach staff. It was very refreshing and endearing. I particularly liked the beach bar Iggies and the sunset cruise. Once again, you can get these on almost every beach in St Thomas, but Bolongo Bay is different - due to the personal relationships formed with all their guests. I too had problems with the mosies and sand fleas, but my room was just wonderful.

Room Tip: I was in a top floor beach view room and just loved it.

“great except for sand fleas”

My wife and I loved the resort. The food was excellent and I would support going all inclusive - it was well worth it. Both restaurants were great - Lobster grill and Iggies. The rooms were ok - a little shabby given the age of the resort. Our A/C was very noisy but we found the temperature at night was fine for sleeping with just the ceiling fan. We were there in January and the temp at night was around 70F. The staff were very friendly -obviously well trained to be attentive to the guests - this is not true at all resorts in the Caribbean. Our only problem were the sand fleas. We were told to get off the beach at 4 pm to avoid them but we left our room door open one pm and the fleas must have gotten in. We were both severly bitten and suffered long after we left. The bugs are noiseless and vicious. I never experienced this anywhere else in the Caribbean but again in most cases our rooms at other resorts were well off the beach. Also Iggies is a bar and restaurant on the beach and the bugs got to us there too. Use the bug off supplied by the restaurants. We wished we had used this service more often. Bolongo is a great place and the taxi drives to and from town were always priced as posted. Check out the House of Rajah in town - the manger is the spitting image of George Clooney (he is called George).

“Perfect getaway”

My husband and I loved our stay at Bolongo Bay. We chose to do the all inclusive plan and it was worth the money. We were able to enjoy the entire property with out having to worry about where our wallets were or what we were going to do with them while out swimming in the bay. All of the staff were friendly and by the second day we were on a first name basis with almost every one. If you decide to go here make sure you go out on Heavely Days for the turtle swim. I think that may have been the best part of the trip for me. Over all the value and the experience were fantastic.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for a view/beach access room. It is worth it.

“Great Time At Bolongo Bay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I really enjoyed my stay at Bolongo Bay. The property only has 64 rooms so it's an intimate setting and you can't help but make friend with the other guest. The rooms are nice and all have great views of the water. If you can get a first floor room because they have little walkway right up to the back door, makes it feel as if it a condo. It is a little older of a place, but all the furniture is new and it's kept up very well. Bolongo Bay is also home to Iggies Beach which has live music every night by some of the top acts on the island. The food was great. My only regret was note being able to eat at the Lobster Grill restaurant they have on site. I did get a chance to speak to the head chef, great guy, and he is a meat expert. Born in Argentina and grew up in Texas, so yeah, he's a meat guy. Hope all this helps! It's impossible to have a bad time, just kick back with a VooDoo juice and watch the Caribbean wash up on the sand. Cheers!
