“A little slice of heaven right on the beach.”

My husband and I had a blast celebrating the destination wedding of our friends at Sapphire Beach. Our condo was fabulous and right on the beach. We had all the makings of our own little vacation home including a full-sized fridge, stove and microwave. Our fully furnished condo came with a welcome bottle of rum (Cruzan, natch!), but that's about it. If you want to eat at home, you'll have to go get some groceries.

We had the lovely opportunity to stay in Unit 209, which was beach-side, second floor. It had a gorgeous view of the beach and was a quick walk to the big pool near the marina and to the marina itself.

Some tips to you:
-Book directly through your owner via http://vrbo.com, if you're able. This seems to be the best way to get a great deal. We booked through http://orbitz.com and paid a much higher rate than others that booked through http://vrbo.com.
-Be aware when booking that Sapphire Village are the units that are further up the hill (read: not right on the beach). They ARE cheaper, however, and the walk to the beach is just down the hill. I believe they will also shuttle you up the hill if you like.
-Red Hook is a quick cab ride away (about a mile). The walk is slightly treacherous and partly without a path, so I'd recommend cabbing it or driving. There is a rather pricey grocery store in Red Hook, but as you'll find, most things are expensive on the island.
-There is a Budget Rental on the property if you want to book a vehicle for the day.
-Check-in is in Building A.
-Drink rum. It's way cheaper than beer.
-Book a tour with New Horizons. Pricey, but a really great time, and the marina is so close to the property.

The only downside? The staff isn't the friendliest. The reception was rather cold and the cleaning folks only came twice. Since our room didn't come equipped with beach towels (it seems most were), this was a problem when we had to take our bath towels down to the beach. We made it work. Drip dry anyone?

All in all, I'd definitely come back, armed with my new found knowledge and lots of cash. St. Thomas is very expensive, but when you're in paradise, it's hard to say no.

Have fun! You'll be on island time in no time!

“Paradise Found!”

If you are looking for the perfect beach location, with the most amazing panaramic views of St John and the British Islands with the sand at your door...look no more! I found my lovely oasis on VRBO.com and worked directly with the condo owner to secure the most perfect, adorable, beach front getaway ever!! You can in VRBO and see which condo meets your budget needs, there are many to choose from...The property is conveniently located on the East End of the island, close to Red Hook so you can jump on the ferry easily and island hop. Also near by are grocery stores to stock up on your needs while on vacation. In addition, adjacant to the property is a marina, should you want to book a sailing, fishing or boating excursion. We just walked over and took an amazing snorkeling day trip with a small group. It was so much fun and completely convenient! Sapphire Beach it self is a contained cove that has amazing snorkeling right at there! I snorkeled every morning, snorkeling gear provided at the activity desk for $15 rental for the week...every morning I was graced with the presence of turtles, sea rays and beautiful fish. Also at the activity desk, you can rent a float or beach chair. Some condos provide these with your rentals, just check. The pool is beautiful, beach side with those amazing views to take in...Every morning, evening we enjoyed the solitude of viewing our beautiful views of the nearby islands with a cup of coffee. This is a place to go if you want to chill, rejuvenate, get some sun and relax. This is not an all-inclusive, 5 star resort with activities and bustle. For added convenience, you can rent a car right on location and take an island tour, go out to dinner, visitt Magan's Bay or find your own quiet beach. The locals can be rough around the edges, but if you treat them with courtesy and respect you should be fine. Food is very expensive, so we opted to eat breakfast and lunch at our condo and just ate dinner out to keep the trip within our budget. There is a small beach side resturant open 11-4 daily, so if you want a cocktail or sandwhich on the beach, you can enjoy. Most days, there was a waitress who will happily serve you at your beach chair! The property is under some sort of legal standstill, so not a lot of amenities are available, like a gym, entertainment. But even with the situation as it is, the pool and beach are well maintained. It is a great find and if you are a beach bum like me, you will love it! I have been twice, once in November and then again in August. Both times did not disappoint!

Room Tip: Use the VRBO website to secure the best condo for you that meets your needs and budget. It ranges...

“Location is key!”

This is a group of older condos but the location makes it more than acceptable. If you're looking for a good value with amenities like fridge, stove, micro, etc. this is the place for you. And you are literally on the beach the minute you step out your back door.

I would stay here again without a doubt. And the distance to the Red Hook area for drinking & dining is more than ideal.

“Relaxing”

Sapphire Beach is not really a "resort", but a group of condos. The pool and beach itself are cleaned every day. But do your homework (thanks to another Tripadvisor review) when you pick a unit. DO NOT stay in building F. We rented from an individual owner, not from the Resort itself, and received rides to and from the airport and a stop at the grocery store. We liked our upstairs 2-story "villa" for privacy, and it was worth climbing the stairs to reach it (no elevator). We stayed in building E next to the marina and enjoyed watching the boats and buying fresh fish. E is on a narrower stretch of beach out of the way of most beach goers. The view from our balconies was marvelous, and balcony sitting is the sport we like best. Our condo had an updated kitchen and was cleaned once during our 8 day stay, but checked on daily in case we needed towels. We used the taxis because the driving was intense on winding and narrow roads; taxis are based behind building A. You cannot walk to Red Hook. Sapphire Grill is a nice little cafe behind the marina, and the sandwich shop between building B and C is open every day. There are many things to do on St.Thomas, but we enjoyed just relaxing on Sapphire Beach. It was lovely and we hope to return again.

Room Tip: Get an upstairs "villa" for privacy, a 1st floor studio for stepping right out onto the sa...

Let me start by saying I've been coming to Sapphire for over 10 years, and I know Sapphire Beach backwards and forwards. I've seen the good, bad, and the ugly.
Sapphire seems to be on the way back to it's glory days. The Resort is much cleaner then it's been in years, the staff and employees seem to have a new , zest for wanting to work and take pride in Sapphire.
All good things take time to complete, and while it's not going to happen over night, Sapphire Beach is putting forth a real effort.
As everyone has stated 100's of times, you need to do your research about rooms and villas. They range from Ritz accommodations to rent by the hour hostels.
Don't be afraid to stay at Sapphire the beach it's one of the best beaches you will ever see.. Snorkeling is right up there with the best in any of the Islands, and if you get the right room, you will think you are royalty.Feel free to pm me if you have specific questions.

Room Tip: make sure you rent from private owner. Ask a lot of questions, get current pictures. If the unit is...
