“DO NOT, I REPEAT...DO NOT STAY HERE!!!”

I have stayed in a couple of hostels...and they seemed like the Waldorf Astoria in comparison to Villa Olga. This establishment needs an injunction, or they need to lower the daily rate to $20 per night. At least then you would get what you pay for. In case I wasn't clear about how poorly the property was maintained, let me be frank. It was beyond disgusting. We were shown multiple rooms, all of which had an overbearing mildew odor probably as a result of the old carpet which looked like it hadn't been changed since 1972. The towels were moldy, the beds didn't have a mattress pads or fitted sheets, the bathroom fixtures were missing, etc. I could go on about the inside of the rooms. The exterior was equally deplorable. The facade was in dire need of reconstruction. The wooden stairs and platforms needed to be replaced. I feared slipping through the cracks. The pools was dirty and the outside bar was dusty. We were there for New Year's Eve, during peak season...but nothing was highly recommendable about this place. I want my money back and then some for the mental shock I experienced. This place should be shut down or converted to a kennel. I can't make this stuff up.

“Taken care of...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

Expect a welcoming greeting. Like you lived there. Nice. Expect your room to be minimal and sparse and not great. Look past the accomadations and embrace where you are. If your trip hinges on where you sleep stay away, otherwise embrace where you are. Go to bettys and pi hole. Thanks jill! Loved it~

“Best Value In St. Thomas”

Villa Olga is not the Westin, but what it lacks in details, it makes up for in value and location. I booked my stay online and had no problems with anything. The staff is friendly and accommodating, offering a map for nearby restaurants and shopping, and frequently checking in to make sure your stay is pleasant. The view is spectacular of downtown Charlotte Amalie and the harbor. Villa Olga is right next door to Oceana, some of the finest dining on the island. If you are looking for a great place to stay within a budget, I highly recommend Villa Olga. You can't beat it and Frenchtown is fairly safe, quaint, and full of adventure for the solo traveler. Plus free wi-fi by the pool...the pool is very nice.

“Beware - an awful, rundown hotel - misleading photographs.”

We flew earlier than expected to St. Thomas, to be ahead of the snowstorm that was headed our way in the U.S. The pictures looked okay, and the $185/night price seemed reasonable given it was height of season. WHAT A MISTAKE. I would not pay $25 a night for it. The room was up on the side of the hill, and no one was available to help carry your bags up those 100 stairs. The room was filthy - human hairs and thick dust in every drawer of the dresser, which had missing handles on some drawers. The beds weren't level - seems when one leg broke they had replaced it with a cinder block. There was no mattress pad on the bed. There was mold in the shower, and the sink fixtures were missing parts and rusted. The bathroom door was broken so it wouldn't slide closed, and the paint was stripped off in several places. The room smelled, again of mold and likely because the filter hadn't been cleaned anytime recently. When we asked to check out after the first night, they refused to refund our money for the other two nights we had booked. An ancient, rusted roll-away bed was placed in a corner of the room. The only person we ever saw in the pool, which was in need of paint and cleaning, was the hotel manager. We couldn't leave fast enough.

“Excellent ocean view, easy access to Charlotte Amalie and restaurants; Awful bug problems and general disrepair.”

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights. The views from our room were amazing. Jill was prompt, courteous, and informative. The proximity to Main Street in Charlotte Amalie (15 minute walk), ferries, seaplane, and restaurants is excellent. However, if you are planning a longer stay within St. Thomas, I would highly recommend a different hotel, unless you enjoy taking very long, extremely hot showers (poor water pressure and no cold water), nightly bug bites, crawling ants, and flying roaches. We stayed in room 3, which has beautiful ocean views, a mini-fridge, a microwave, a useless safe (apparently a previous guest "ran off with the key" and the hotel staff never replaced the safe), a broken screen door and multiple missing vertical blinds (though facing the ocean, the fact that half our room was open for view, privacy seemed a bit lacking). The Inn also has rusty, unkempt grills available for patron usage, though I highly doubt anyone would risk cooking on them. Also, free internet available only on the deck, not in the room. For a comparable price you may want to consider the windward passage, which is equally as accessible to everything in Charlotte Amalie and Frenchtown, has similar views, amenities and offers free service to Magens bay.
