“The Best Western Emerald Beach Resort is the Place to Go!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My wife grew up in St Thomas, so she certainly knows her way around. The beach at the Best Western Emerald Beach Resort is one of the best on the island! It is her "preferred" place to stay in St Thomas. The price is well worth it. And it's fairly close to downtown Charlotte Amalie.

If you are staying for a week or more, I suggest you get a rental car. The "dollar-man" taxi's are convenient - but they aren't $1 any more. It's more like $10/person. So, after a few trips with one friend, you could just as well have gotten a rental car for less money. (Only 2 rides a day for 2 people for 7 days = $280, and an economy-sized rental car is about $300.)

You could go to the Best Western at Carib Beach nearby for a lot less money, but you may be disappointed. Being right next to the airport, it is noisy. It's an older hotel, and is not well-kept compared to other places. I've heard complaints about the staff by some, so check the reviews there first, before you book.

Sometimes we like to go to the Secret Harbour Beach Resort instead. It's at the east end, near Red Hook. The beach there is just as nice as Emerald Beach, but the price is a bit more expensive.

The staff at the Best Western Emerald Beach Resort are wonderful, helpful and very friendly. The upkeep of the property is great, and the rooms are very nice for the money. The immenities are great - among other things, you have a refrigerator and a microwave, and OH, what a view from your balcony (2nd and 3rd floors). It's beautiful!

We especially love the bar on the beach. If you want to drink while laying in a lounge chair on the beach, a cute waitress will bring you drinks to enjoy. Of course, its cheaper to buy your own bottle and drink on your balcony - or wherever - but a nite or two of splurging, meeting other guests and talking with the bartender wont ruin you!

Room Tip: There are 4 buildings. Building #3 has the best view, if you are on the 2nd floor in the middle. And...

“Good Hotel for 1st Visit to Islands”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This hotel is perfect for people traveling in and out of St. Thomas and need to be close the airport! (It's literally an easy 10-min. walk.) I don't regret a second staying here for my first time in the caribbean islands, but also note that I would never stay here again.

A lot of reviews I read said to stay on St. John or St. Croix when visiting USVI. I would agree with them, and if I go back, I will do that. But as my first time staying in St. Thomas, this was an easy place to get to from the airport and get situated. We were able to get the lay of the land pretty quickly and easily. The beach is stunning and pretty private -- mostly hotel goers, though there were a few cruise ship folks when the cruise shipped docked. While, you can easily get the $1 dollar bus into town (you have to walk to the main road), you can't get really further than that with the dollar man. So you back to getting taxis everywhere. AND TAXIS ARE SUPER EXPENSIVE - minimum $10 a person anywhere on the island.

I spent over $200-300 on taxis. If I would have put that expense into my hotel, I could have stayed somewhere on St. John or St. Croix. But because we did that we saw most of St. Thomas (all parts of it), which was essentially the idea. But now that we've seen it, I plan to never stay here again. The food options are basically two restaurants - one at the hotel and one at the Best Western across the Bay (which there is a free shuttle). They were both pretty good, but you are going to pay a minimum of $30-40 just on food when you dine there. It's overpriced for the quality, but a lot of the food is overpriced on St. Thomas, so I don't know if you'll find much cheaper. If you are planning on staying longer than couple of days, the food options will get really stale, real quick. (We found the perfect pizza place on St. John and it was super cheap.)

The rooms were fine - tile floor, wicker furniture. Honestly we didn't spend that much time in them. The water pressure sucked in the shower.

The beach was BEAUTIFUL THOUGH!

Room Tip: Most of the rooms are ALL on the beach (if I'm not mistaken) so it doesn't matter.

“Welcome to paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I spent a week at Emerald Beach Resort, this was my second visit. The beach is beautiful the hotel is lovely, the rooms are so nice, clean and very comfortable and the food is great. The staff is very professional and friendly they welcomed me and taught me all about island living. Relaxed from a day on the beach sitting at the bar watching the sunset sharing a laugh with new friends over rum punch...It just doesnt get much better than that. I will definatly be back again and again thank you Emerald Beach.....
