We spent over a week at Cozy Quarters (Kathe Brenay is the owner, email is: usvirginislandscondo.com) and found it to be an EXCELLENT value. There is a small beach near by (one minute walk), the pool is right out the door and it is a short 5 minute walk over to Coki Beach, one of the more popular beaches in St. Thomas. Smith Bay has a nice beach and is just minutes away as well.
We had a blast. We had two teenagers with us, and the enjoyed St Thomas as well as Cozy Quarters very much. Having the pool close allowed to take a quick dip anytime (at night was refreshing) or during the day to cool off. The pool is large, and wasn't used much except by us while we were there!
The units (we had 3 bedrooms) consist of inter-connnected rooms, which can be set up for various number of people - see the web sight for more information. The units were clean, comfortable - a true value for a Carribean vacation!
The units are part of a development adjacent to a closed resort - so the beach is very little used. Wyndam has purchased the property, and I was told that they are going to starting construction sometime in the next year. I don't see that being a problem - and once that gets opened there most likely will be restaurants and/or bars very close. As it is, there is a small bay side bar (Fungi's) that is a short walk (less than 5 minutes along the bay) which we ate at a couple of times and the food is good. There is also a very ncie restaurant we did not eat at (Agave's, I think) which is also nearby.
This property is on the east end, and very near Red Hook, where there is shopping, restaurants and bars. We had a great meal at Fish Tails, right next to the ferry docks. A fun night spot is Duffy's Love Shack, tauted as the best parking lot bar in the world. Its a fun place. However there is a lot to choose from, and it seemed very safe. Its easy to catch a ferry to St John or even one of the BVIs - like Jost VanDyke (highly recommeded) or Tortola.
The ride into Charlotte Amalie is probably 20 minutes - you can drive (on the left side of the road, beware) or take the "Safari" trucks for 2-4 dollars depending on where you are going. Make sure to talk to someone before heading out, as there are a few simple things you need to know about the system. We used it and it worked well. Taxis are also plentiful, although we did rent a car from Discount Car (we've used Dependable as well, and liked them better). Note, if you plan on taking a car to St John you will need to rent a jeep; most rental car companies won't let you take a car over due to the condition of the roads.
We will definitely stay at Cozy Quarters again (next year or this fall). We really like the location - and the value we received. I don't think you could find a better place to stay - the owner is wonderful and helpful, the place is very clean, and it is in a good location!
