“Gorgeous hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Our first impression of the hotel was very friendly, service-oriented staff. The property has beautiful gardens and the rooms are meticulously maintained.

The pool and beach have ample seating and the view is beautiful. It was refreshing to be at a resort where there were more lounge chairs than people; no need to claim a chair first thing in the morning, which seems common elsewhere. The staff are very attentive and the poolside drinks are great.

We enjoyed the cold brunch buffet at Bluewater restaurant, lunches at Sails, and suppers at the Great Bay Lounge. The food was very good and in my opinion the prices are in keeping with the ambiance and level of service. The Bluewater patio at night is very romantic, with torchlights and views of island lights in the distance.

One minor complaint was pretty tight restriction where guests are allowed to take the water equipment (kayaks, windsurfers etc). They basically want you to stay in a small area directly in front of the equipment loan place. We're active and would like to have gone a little further. I guess they have lost too many tourists! However, at other resorts we have been given a little longer leash.

We stayed at the Ritz Carlton for a few days prior to leaving for home (we were returning from St. John). It was a perfect place to kick back for a few days and enjoy the view.

“Great venue to fully relax”

My son and I spent five days in Tortola and decided to "camp-out" at the Ritz St Thomas for a few days before returning to the states. Our room as vey nice, the staff professional, food terrific and the accommodations were fine with great views. My only complaint is that you are captive to the Ritz and any travel away from the resort is costly w the surly aditude of the taxi drivers. The hotel should have a simple coffee house or grill. Any way good stay and I will come back.

“Picturesque Property”

This was a trip earned through a company incentive so my experience with hotel staff was limited but everyone I spoke with was very friendly and accomodating as one would expect with this type of hotel. The room's were nice but weren't as high end as you come to expect from the Ritz Carlton brand. The food was just alright and it pains me to say it but the breakfast buffet was the best food of the entire day as we had quite a few meals prepared for us by the Hotel for our group and none stood out. What puts the property over the top in my view is the location and the amenities available on site. Whether you were in one of the large infinity's edge pools, or on the beaches or in the waters in front of the hotel it was just flat out picture perfect looking. I know if I had paid for the vacation I might feel less generous but this was my impression.

“Beautiful Location, Nice Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I'm not sure why anyone would write a negative review about this place! St. Thomas is magnificent. The weather in February was perfect, warm and not too humid. The service was on par with other Ritz properties we have been to. Yes the property is not brand new, but they keep the property clean. Even the "older" rooms are still clean and comfortable. You are paying top dollar for the gorgeous location, the beautiful property/beach, great food and impeccable service. We were only there for 4 days and found the trip very relaxing. The pool and beach staff are great with drinks and food. The free non-motorized water sports are a nice touch. We recommend a trip on the Lady Lyndsey either for a dinner cruise, snorkeling or a sunset cruise. Just get out on the water and enjoy the Caribbean Sea!
The restaurants were good, but again we were only there for four days. Eating all meals on the property might get a bit repetitive if you are there for an entire week, but the quaint town of Red Hook is only a five minute taxi ride and there are lots of great restaurants and shops there. We also had a wonderful couples massage at their spa. Overall, we found our experience at the Ritz to be relaxing and worth the money and certainly would return in the future!

“Beautiful hotel, excellent service”

We just returned from a four night stay at the Ritz Carlton St. Thomas. Overall we were very pleased with the property and the service. The hotel is very well maintained, and the beach is gorgeous. The views of St. John can't be beat. Head down to Red Hook for some great restaurant options at much better prices, and I highly recommend Old Stone Farmhouse for dinner.

As others have said, the service is great, and the prices are very high as you would expect from a Ritz. Our only complaints were ones that you couldn't blame the hotel for - St. Thomas was not the nicest of islands and we had multiple people comment on the newer issues with safety on the island. The hotel is also very isolated, and there are no real opportunities to leave the property without a car or taxi. That being said, very relaxing and enjoyable. When we go back we will make the extra investment in time and money to go across the bay to St. Johns, but if you are a Ritz or Marriott loyalist you will have a good experience here.

Room Tip: Begonia building close to the main building was nice for accessibility to restaurants and gym.
