This is a beautifully maintained property on gorgeous grounds. The grounds are very impressive, with large mahogany trees, flowering shrubbery, mango trees, Gardenia bushes, etc. The setting is breathtaking; one can see the ocean on the north shore from the pool or from one's rooftop deck. The room was very comfortable with a nice bathroom. Execellent maid service, thank you Marilyn! Towels very nice, not shabby at all and plenty of them. Toiletries very good as well. The inn is so quiet, no traffic, no sirens , just birds!!! Our suite had a large attached screened room (Porch?) with plenty of furniture: a glass-topped table with four chairs, a chaise longue and an ottoman with two extra chairs, all upholstered with comfy cushions. So nice. The rooftop deck was so nice early in the AM or in the evening. The safe was easy to use, ditto the refrigerator.
There were always breezes here; so great to have a constant breeze. There were no bugs at all in the room. Just ceiling fans and AC. If you like TV, they had every channel it seemed. Also phone in room for those who don't carry a cell. The bed was very comfy and roomy.
The pool was large and not skimpy like some of the ones we saw. It was very clean and private, like everything else on the property.
Jeff, the Innkeeper, was gracious and accomodating. Being picked up from and delivered to the airport was absolutely grand. The car rental was seamless as well. We so appreciated all the service which we never had before. Jeff prepared a different breakfast every morning but always served a delicious fruitcup with fresh fruit, which takes a lot of effort. I enjoyed the papaya stuffed frenchtoast (it was not too sweet), the tomato basil frittata, and the omelet he prepared for me. If you don't like sweets, you can always order toast!! Jeff was good company at cocktail hour, even when we were the only guests the first three nights. He is a good host.
We dined out a few nights; I would recomment Savant, it having delicious food and a fabulous atmosphere. The servers were warm and not aggressive. Not at all run of the mill. It was the best of the lot. I had the duck and my spouse had the Wahu. We went twice to Rowdy Joe's; crab cakes very good there. Also had lunch there once: we shared an order of barbecued chicken and rice and beans. This reminded us of an American sports bar. Definitely not our style, but some like it.
I would not say there is much of a scene in St. Croix; some of the restaurants we tried were really dirty or very hot. Bacchus is supposed to be very good, but we didn't try it. I would like to find out if there is a gourmet grocery on the island. The restaurants are extremely expensive, New York prices, but I think that's the way it is in the Caribbean. We would really like to know where to find FRESH fish on the island. Some of the food offerings were pretty heavy.
The island is very unspoiled and appears very prosperous. We felt safe the entire time. We stuck to the North Shore area, Route 80, and it was breathtaking. We found a beach there; the water and breezes were perfect. Water very clean. Why don't they maintain the beach where Columbus landed? in the Salt River park area? That could have been perfect. We drove to a few resorts to see if we were missing anything beachwise and we were definitely not. The beach at Buccaneer resort was small and nondescript. So we stayed with the north shore west of Christiansted. Christiansted is a very well maintained and beautiful city. So interesting to walk aorund in.
We were always happy to come back to Villa Greenleaf after our day at the beach; so delightful. I hope we can go back next year. It was our first trip to St. Croix and we had a relaxing enjoyable time with PERFECT weather.
