My wife and I stayed 5 nights, Jan. 22-26, 2012. We did not go to the bar or eat from the bar menu, and ate about half of our meals from the restaurant, the other half in Christiansted and Frederichsted. The food was great. For breakfast we preferred the fruit and yogurt dish, which was for one person, but actually sufficient for two people. We did not eat any lunches there, but the dinners were great, too. We rented a car and drove all over the island. Luckily we brought our Garmin navigator that had directions for the Virgin Islands. About 95% of the directions were correct, but about 5% either told you to make wrong turns or were not available. The Palms at Pelican Cove was not listed in the Garmin, nor was the small road they are located on. The roads lack sufficient road signs, and it is confusing trying to figure out how to drive on the left side of the road. We would have been totally lost without the Garmin, especially driving at night. I had been reading the reviews about the Palms for at least the past 4 years, and felt like I already knew the resort and the people. It was and still is my first choice for the Caribbean. Mitch was especially helpful and friendly. He made suggestions about places to visit on St. Croix, and we visited many of them. He led us on a hike, which was very informative. We declined the snorkeling, which he offered, and went on the boat trip to Buck Island with Caribbean Adventures, but declined snorkeling there too. We had to get wet anyway, when we had to climb into chest-deep water, not dressed in swimming suits, to wade onto the island, so we do recommend swimming suits for this trip. We visited the forts and historical sites around the island, including Point Udall, the furthest east point in US territory. We drove to the rain forest and beaches, and went to see the bands with the rhythm and blues cruise, which was docked in Fredrichsted. The beaches near Frederichsted were the best. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom and shower were great, everything was clean and neat, the decor was attractive, and the second floor balcony had a tremendous view of our back yard beach and sea. We left the patio door open at night, so we could hear the sound of the waves and get the sea breezes. We wouldn't have felt so comfortable doing this if we were on the first floor. We went to the Carribean night at the Palms and had the great buffet, and saw the Moco Jumbies dance. These are stilt walkers dressed in costumes, and are traditional in the Carribean. We also went to the crab races at a local bar in Christiansted, which were fun. We toured the Cruzan rum place, and enjoyed their free samples. We enjoy doing educational cultural trips, and the fact that there were a lot of Danish people visting and staying at the Palms made the trip more interesting. The island was Danish for many years, and the Danes like to visit for that reason, besides being able to visit beautiful tropical beaches, to get away from their northern winters. There is something for everyone here, and now the whole 5 days feels like a wonderful dream, getting away from the dreary midwestern winter. The Palms was the right choice, and we would definitely go there again. All the people, including Mitch as well as Chuck, were very helpful and friendly. The front desk people were very helpful. My wife mentioned it was my birthday, and I very quickly got Mitch and two other employees giving me birthday cake and singing happy birthday. We felt like royalty spending time there, which gives us wonderful memories. Coming back from St. Croix and the Palms, I feel renewed and blessed.
