“Peace & Beauty at Le Vele”

Living in the NY metropolitan area, I escape the winter every year for a Carribean vacation. My first visit to Turks & Caicaos (January 2007) was made memorable by the quietly beautiful Le Vele.

My well maintained corner two bedroom beachfront condo had a balcony perfect for breakfast and sipping champagne at sunset. When not on the beach, swimming laps in the empty pool and sunny on the poolside lounge chairs was delightful. Rarely was a sound heard as Le Vele appeals to adults more than families.

The office is managed by Beverly, who is that rare person that brings competence and caring to the job everyday. She patiently answered every question as through it was the first time ever asked and fulfilled every request.

Having in lived in Jamaica for two years and travelled throughout the islands for 30 more, I can report that Turks and Caicaos is a perfect place for travellers who want clean white sand beaches, good to excellent restaurants, polite people, and a serene, low volume vacation. Le Vele, which does not have a restaurant, offers all the rest.

“Fabulous stay!!!!”

We just returned from a week at Le Vele...this was not long enough! This was a FANTASTIC property. It was, as stated previously, a very sleek, modern, not typical Caribbean style property. We felt that most of the other properties on the bay looked alike and this property had a unique appearance. We loved it! Very clean and comfortable. The location couldn't be better. The beach was perfect and the chairs were fine. They did have umbrellas set up at the pool and beach area. The pool was wonderful too, very clean and well maintained.
The dog mentioned in a previous review was Jackson. He was not a bother, actually, we enjoyed him. As for children, one family with 3 kids lives there during the winter but they were perfectly behaved and were not a problem in any way.
Breakfast was nothing great. We ate some of it but preferred to make our own. They offered a (albeit small) DVD collection which was nice as were are not into night-life and enjoyed relaxing with a movie.
The staff was great, Beverly was absolutely wonderful as was the rest of the staff. They were able to answer all of our questions and provide everything we needed. They took care of the rental car and arranged in-room massages for us. I would say however, if booking massages we had Spa Tropique come to the room for a couples 90 minute massage and were not impressed. A few days later we went over to the Grace
Bay Club for the same service with Sonja and Girlie and it was possibly the best massages we have ever had! My advice is go there...not Spa Tropique!
Snorkeling at Coral Gardens was fun. Smith's reef was not as good for us. We did snorkel at our beach quite a bit, the water was so clear and calm but not many fish. We did see a HUGE spotted ray right at our beach. It had to be 6 or 7 feet! It was really cool. We saw some smaller rays at the beach and a barracuda down by the Beaches resort right off shore. My husband did get to see a very small (3') nurse shark at Coral Gardens out on the far side of the buoys in about 20' of water. He was on the bottom just hanging out! Not threatening in any way!
We will definitely return to TC in the spring/summer. We have visited many islands and so far this is our favorite. Le Vele is wonderful!

“Le Vele - Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2007

We just returned from a week at Le Vele (July 21 - 28) where we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We did alot of research before our trip (thanks Trip Advisor!) and finally after narrowing it down to 3 properties, decided to go with Le Vele. We were not disappointed!

I'll give you as much detail as possible so that you, too, can make an informed decision.

First of all, my husband and I are both 43 and have 4 children so we wanted a place to "get away from it all" - rest, relax and reconnect. Peace and quiet were what we were looking for and what we found. If you are looking for a party atmosphere then this is not the place for you. If you enjoy relaxing on a beautiful beach with lots of peace and quiet - book it now! That's not to say that we did not meet some really nice people - we made some great friends - some of whom were owners at Le Vele - and we did schedule activities which were great fun. You can make the vacation what you want.

The Island - it is beautiful beyond anything we have seen. Crystal clear water and powdery sand beaches. It was the off season and so it was not very busy or crowded. We went parasailing (you have to try this - it was so much fun and the view of the reef and the island was unbelievable!) and on several day trips for snorkeling and exploring the other islands. We also rented a jeep for a day and drove all over the island. It was fun but the roads are not all paved and we were glad we had a 4 wheel drive! As stated by other reviews, there is not much shopping - we had trouble finding t-shirts! We did find some nice gifts at Art Provo - its worth looking at.

The Resort - It was beautiful and simple and luxurious all at the same time. We booked the Simply Romance package and it was wonderful. Our suite was beautiful and spacious and we especially loved the large, private balcony with its wonderful view of the water. Some people have complained about the simplicity of the furnishings but we found it to be very peaceful and soothing and the suite certainly had every amenity we could have wanted or needed! The staff was very friendly and accommodating - they gave us opinions when we asked and helped make reservations for meals and outings. We feel like we made real friends (Thanks Beverly - Alexio and Floye!)

The Food - OK, some people have complained about the breakfast at Le Vele but we actually thought it was fine. We are not big breakfast eaters so the bagels and croissants and fresh fruit were fine by us. We knew what to expect up front - if you want a large breakfast, you'll need to cook it or go out. We did buy some groceries at the IGA (yes, very expensive!!!) for lunch and snacks and we enjoyed eating lunch on the balcony overlooking the water. We ate out every night - Grace's Cottage (twice, because it was so good!!) - Magnolia's (twice, again it was excellent and had a wonderful view of Turtle Cove - great sunsets) - Tiki Hut (nice, more casual) - Bella Luna (walking distance from Le Vele and spectacular Italian food!) - Da Conch Shack (best fresh conch fritters on the island and great rum punch) - Hemingways (It was OK, not great but not bad) - Caicos Cafe (again, good but not great). If you go to Grace's cottage, make sure there is a nice breeze outside or it can get very hot. Expect to pay $125 - $150 for dinner for two and ALWAYS check your bill - some add a 10% gratutity and some don't. Also, bring bug spray with you - most restaurants are outdoors and some have bug spray but you will get eaten by mosquitos if you don't have it! Even to the nicer restaurants, you can wear nice shorts and a polo shirt for men - you don't have to get really dressed up.

We did have massages next door at Point Grace and they were wonderful - outdoor cabanas on the beach - private but you could still hear the waves.

We had the opportunity to look at several resorts on the island and have to say this was the best choice for us. If you require white glove service with turndowns and chocolates on your pillow, then you might want to go somewhere else. If you are going for a great location with ocean view - well run and friendly staff - then you will have a wonderful time at Le Vele!

  • Liked — Peace and quiet, beautiful beach and accommodations
  • Disliked — We have nothing negative to say about it!

“Simply the best!”

My boyfriend and I stayed from May 31-June 5th and loved every second. Having been to many Caribbean islands, I think holistically this is my favorite one yet; from the people who are friendly but not invasive to the clear blue waters and breath-taking surroundings. There's nothing bad to say about it. The property grounds are gorgeous and the staff was welcoming and accomodating. The beach is absolutely stunning and we'll definitely be back. Le Vele's simple luxury philosophy will always be my number one choice when going back.

Le Vele is a perfect destination if you want class, sophistication, modernity, and beauty. The staff are warm, attentive, and offer you wonderful yet simple service during your stay. Le Vele is also very gay friendly!!! If you want to avoid the Disney Land experience of a chain resort, have access to an amazing stretch of Grace Bay Beach, and a rum punch to die for (Beverly holds the secret recipe) Le Vele is for you.
