My boyfriend and I stayed at OCW from Jan. 28, 2012 to Feb. 4, 2012, and we had a wonderful time. As way of background, we are both in our mid-thirties and have done all inclusive vacations as well as a cruise in the past. This was our first time to Turks & Caicos, but it certainly won’t be our last. This was the best vacation we have taken yet.
We arrived at the resort around 12 pm, but we knew that check in was not until 4 pm. The front desk stored our luggage and we walked around to explore the resort and the surrounding area. Our condo was ready early at 3pm, which was great. They upgraded us, free of charge, from a Junior Suite to a 1 Bedroom. We stayed in Unit #523, which was a 1 bedroom condo located on the 2nd floor. The condo was fabulous and had everything we could possibly need (all kitchen stuff, full size refrigerator, a dishwasher, stove, blender, coffee maker, utensils, washer & dryer, etc). They also provided dish soap, dishwasher detergent, and clothes detergent. Really, everything we needed - - including the most important kitchen gadget, the wine opener.
We didn’t rent a car and found that we didn’t need to as there were so many good restaurants within walking distance (keeping in mind, we are active and don’t mind a longer walk). The Graceway supermarket was very close (about a 5 min. walk) and the front desk at OCW has a handy cart you can borrow to bring your groceries back. We purchased breakfast food, snacks, beer and wine. We ate breakfasts and lunch in our condo, then went out to a nice restaurant each night for dinner.
For us, the best part about the condo was the screened in decks. Our condo had 2 decks (one off the front, facing the pool, and one in the rear off of the back bedroom.) We left both doors open and there was an amazing cross breeze through the entire condo. We sat out on our front deck each night, relaxing with wine and enjoying the quiet resort. The pool is lighted at night and you could hear the ocean waves from our condo. It was so great.
The resort services were great too - housekeeping came each day and cleaned and left towels. They would even run the dishwasher and put everything away afterwards, which was so great. The beach is awesome – soft sand, waiter/waitress service for drinks, and clear water. We never had a problem finding chairs and an umbrella on the beach, even when we slept in late. Overall, Grace Bay is a gorgeous beach. We had no complaints.
We ate at the Seaside Café for 2 meals (lunch when we got there, and then dinner one night when we were too tired to go off the resort property.) The food was good, although service is a bit slow, but hey, everyone’s on island time. We also ate (and highly recommend) Bay Bistro, CoCo Bistro and Mango Reef. Each of these places were great, though our favorite hands down was Bay Bistro, where we sat out on the beach and had a wonderful meal with great service.
We also walked down the beach one day to the original Ocean Club resort to check out the Cabana Bar. We had some awesome frozen drinks there and the jerk chicken wings were worth the walk!
We will definitely return to Ocean Club West for our next Caribbean vacation. It's not a resort for those looking for a big party scene. But if you are looking for a relaxing vacation, it's a wonderful resort.
