We just came back from out 6th visit to Sibonne and the fabulous Bay Bistro restaurant which sits on the same property. The weather was absolutely perfect, as was the greeting by staff and booking agent Marie who was visiting the property from Connecticut, where it turns out we are currently residing and only and hour by car apart. She's an absolutely wonderful woman, who does everything in her power to make everyone happy.....even the kitties who reside at Sibonne to keep the gecko population at bay, and dole out "fur fixes" to guests who need a fuzzy face to nuzzle them, to get over missing the pets they left at home.
So many of the guests return at the same time every year, we've all gotten to know each other by name, and it's like coming to a mini reunion when we all get to the beach.
Our good friend Winchlyn, the grounds keeper and all around handy man was there with open arms to welcome us again, as were the staff in the office and at the restaurant, along with managers Sandra and Ken, the Bay Bistro's chef, Clive and bartender, Junior. Those smiles alone were enough to shake off the winter blues.
I'm always at a loss when I read about people using harsh words to describe a place that has nothing but simple beauty and honesty about it. Those expecting room service and "butt kissing" are better served to drop $500 a night at another venue where employees are paid for that sort of thing. We go on vacation to relax, enjoy the sun, beautiful beach, great food, and local islanders who make us feel at home. If we want the stress of pretension, we have lot's of events on our social calendar at home that will fit that bill. Nothing against those who want to be catered to hand and foot, but at Sibonne, you are made to feel like you "belong", even for a precious few days, and being part of that experience is what keeps us returning to the paradise that is Sibonne and Bay Bistro.......
