My hubby and I stayed at this resort Jan/Feb 2012 for 2 weeks. Our trip started out by our luggage being left behind. We were warmly greeted at the airport by a Club Med rep who informed us on what needed to be done for our luggage and gave us all a $100/per person credit at the resort boutique to purchase needed items. Within minutes we were in a comfy van towards Club Med for the 15-20 minute ride.
Upon arrival we were greated with smiles, dancing and music, refreshing drinks and ice cold water and warm facecloths. We were given necessary explanations about the resort and escorted to our rooms immediately. I was so pleased with the no wait process and resort credit that all the anxiety and stress that lost luggage should have caused me was non existant.
Our room was in section B, very quiet yet close to everything. We purchased basic necessities and were given a toiletteries bag. The room although very small, was clean. Housekeeping would clean in the morning and turn down service would clean a second time, everyday. Fresh towels, clean sheets and beverage refill in fridge twice a day! I did miss having a balcony and room service but I would bring cookies (yum!) and pizza in my room fridge for late nite snacks.
Speaking of late nite snacks, Sharkies is open till 2am and serves delicious chicken wraps, salads, burgers, etc. So after dancing the evening away, we would head out to Sharkies for a wrap and fries. Loved that!
All of the GO's were great. Always smiling, they remembered us, our name, our purchases, our drinks, even my lactose intolerence. They joined us for lunch and laughed and danced with us in the evening.
The food was delicious! I did not have a single meal that I didn't enjoy and I am quite a picky eater. The a la carte was also very good although service was not up to par (had to ask for my drink 4 times and finally got it at the end of the meal).
The pool was clean and the water temperature was perfect. I would have liked more shaded areas and after 3 days of going to breakfast at 8h30am and all shaded areas being 'reserved', I understood that if I ever wanted any shade, I had to get up early and also 'reserve' by setting our towels down.
The beach is beautiful soft white sand and the water really is turquoise. Simply breathtaking. We also came within a few feet of JOJO, a dolphin that hangs out in front of the resort. Remy the village chef came around everyday to ask us if all was well and the GO's would come around with platters of fruit or popsicles. What a nice touch!
Evening were so much fun. Dancing and laughing and playing ping pong or pool. The music was not too loud but just enough to get us moving if we so pleased.
Our second week there was quite different. We were part of a group that had booked the whole resort therefore, the resort was completely full. Although the GO's did a fantastic job, the service was greatly diminished. Seemed they did not have enough workers for the amount of guests. We had a minimum of 1 hour wait at Sharkies (the beach bar/snack) for a burger everyday of that second week. Getting a drink at the main bar during the evening was quite a challenge. The buffet would run out of food in the evening so if you wanted say ribs or the preferred chicken, you had to get there early.
The trapeze was great but after a couple of times, my daughter's hands were a mess (blisters) because they do not lend gloves. This would have been a nice touch and allowed her to not hurt herself and enjoy the trapeze more often.
Had lots of fun on the beach with catamaran, windsurfing, snorkeling and volleyball. The second week was again different. Had a hard time getting a windsurf board, had to sign up for volleyball and could only play at certain alloted times.
All in all I loved loved loved Club Med Turks & Caicos and would most definitely go back, when I know the resort is not full. I went with my hubby for the first week and my kids joined us for the second week...they would have probably enjoyed themselves more had they had the opportunity to be there with less guests.
I have been travelling to 5* only resorts for the past 10 years and was very worried about this resort. As I said, this was a 500 person group travel and I had no choice of the resort. I can truly say that this was one of the best vacations that I have had! So much fun!
Thank you Club Med!
Room Tip: Section B is close to everything yet far away enough to not hear anything when sleeping.
