When you want to get away from it all and relax, than this is for sure one of the places. I was there many times. Remember your not in Las Vegas. And that in it self is Great.
LOL.. So when you want to Relax, go to the Salt Raker Inn. The late 1980's threw the 90's Grand Turk was my home..
If you can not handle "Serenity" than stay at home. Lol.
Have fun now.

“The only tourist on the Island.”

I arrived at The Salt Raker Inn August 31. It was built in 1830 but very well cared for by Erica and her staff. I had a relaxing time until hurricane Hanna arrived. They asked if I wanted to evacuate, but I said no ! After the storm was over things got back to normal. It is a very pleasant place to stay. Then came hurricane Ike ! This was a category 2 hurricane, but it absorbed the hurricane behind it named Joesphine and then became a category 5 hurricane !
After it was all over I was interviewed by CNN as the only tourist on the island, the only one who wouldn't leave. I was on my two week vacation from Canada Post and was determined to take it.
The British sent a helicopter to checkout the damage and radioed for one thousand body-bags for the dead. When they landed they found that NO ONE DIED ! About sixty percent of the people lost there homes altogether, and everyone had extensive property damage. Erica and her staff remained on the job throughout the storms and the Inn continues to be open for business, but without the restaurant and bar which received extensive damage.
I loved this place and can't wait to go back.

  • Liked — It's perfect for a romantic getaway, lots of privacy.

“Charming and perfect Salt Raker Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2008

Rooms are huge, staff is extrememly friendly and accommodating. We had been diving on Wednesday, and the restaurant was closed when we got back, but Erika (the owner) asked if she could fix us a sandwich if that would be okay. She went into the kitchen and came out with two huge, delicious sandwiches. Erika is the sweetest, most attentive hostess we've ever encountered, and the charm of the hotel was great. Our room was always clean and anything we needed was taken care of quickly and courteously. I would highly recommend the Salt Raker Inn to anyone staying on the island for diving, who wants a quiet, clean peaceful place to stay. The Secret Garden was fantastic for all of our meals.

  • Liked — Convenient and very attentive staff
  • Disliked — There was nothing we didn't like

“Good place if expectations are low”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2007

This Inn is great due to its location (next to Oasis Diving and by the ocean) and innkeeper Erika (helpful and friendly), but lousy in terms of upkeep and amenities. We stayed for 5 days. Grand Turk is a place for diving (It was FANTASTIC), but not for Resort seekers as there isn't much to do in the evenings. We wanted to like the Inn, but the room was pretty poor. Always dealing with mosquitos because the cleaning woman leaves the door open for an hour; the good side was that the room was cleaned very well daily. The ceiling fan chain was broken off, so couldn't be turned on, but the AC was fine. The towels were old, bleach and sometimes rust-stained, and hard. The bathroom had paint peeling, shower drain very slow so had a "pool" with every shower and shower head pointed straight ahead. Sometimes the hot water was used up, so cold shower. There were some toilet flushing problems too (not much). In the front patio garden, there were leaves galore that were never raked up, except for started in one corner one day, but never finished. There were lounge chairs in this area that were covered with dirt and leaves. Now the concrete part of the patio and in front of the rooms was very clean and kept that way. We took one of the lounge chairs from the garden area, cleaned it off and put it by our door and that was nice.
In general, this was just not an attractive place to stay. Everything is indeed on island time on Grand Turk, and since we were relaxing, that suited us fine. However, you can run into problems making meeting times due to waiting for food or service at the restaurants. Leave yourself a lot of extra time. Our next door neighbor was staying for 2 weeks and loved the place, so it is really all about your expectations.
Note, in this area the beach is divided by breakwaters, old piers, etc., so not a place where one can walk for miles along a sandy beach. For that you would need to go further north or south out of town, not within walking distance. The Bohio would be a place for that.

“Salt Racker Inn Oasis Divers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2006

I stayed at the Salt Racker Inn for two weeks modest met my needs the location is very good as you are walking distance to everything you need. Erica runs the place and does a GREAT JOB!! Diving was enjoyable and Oasis did a very good job everyday making us feel special. I felt the prices were very affordable. rented a scooter from Val's and explored the island. It is a very special place and the belongers and those who have moved there are very welcoming. I will return many times Maybe I will buy some property there. People have to remember this island is very relaxed, do not expect the service you get in the more devloped locations. That is why I like it, if it takes a hour to get your food relax and enjoy yourself.
