“Erika”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

This is a traditional Bermundan House that has weathered all sorts of weather.
The rooms are clean and basic, Erika the hostess has a work ethic off the radar.
Nothing is too much trouble and she is kind and generous in nature.
Zeus her husband plays the Ripsaw on Friday nights along with Mitch and the High Tide band - good for a Caribbean wriggle! In season he as been known to grill the local Conch in a tasty vegetables.
The beaches are deserted with clear aqua waters.. The dive wall is ONLY 5 minutes from the shore and fantastic..
Rustic basics - great value for money to chill in the caribbean and still have money to do activities..

Room Tip: Ocean View

“MY FAVOURITE PLACE ON EARTH”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

The Salt Raker Inn provided the perfect environment for me as a teenager on holiday with my family. The free wireless internet allowed me to keep in contact with my friends whilst relaxing at the bar with a drink and chatting to the owner Erika; a wonderful, kind and accomadating hostess, addressing all our needs, such as during a power cut she came round the rooms checking to see if we were ok and needed any battery powered lamps!! The rooms themselves, in addition to the bar and restaurant, have all been newly refurbished following the terrible damage inflicted by the hurricane's in 2008. The rooms are cleaned daily and provide the perfect place for my 13 year old brother and I to 'chill out' and watch T.V! The Salt Raker is in the ideal location to stay, with the people-free beaches and clear blue sea right in front of the hotel-so no need to waste time driving anywhere when you could be enjoying your holiday! My father has also commented on the room rates stating they were "very good value compared to other places on the island" ! As well as this the food in the Secret Garden Restaurant is the tastiest i have ever had with a range of traditional isalnd dishes such as grilled grouper with peas and rice and fried plantain-my favourite! My brother and father have enjoyed diving with Blue Water Diver's- who came to the front of the hotel in their boat to collect them- which was arranged efficiently by Erika! Staying at the Salt Raker Inn, in my opinion, was the perfect place to stay; i could enjoy the whole 'island experience' without any hassle, such as on Friday nights when Mitch plays and sings with Lindsay on the saw (!) and Conchy on the bongoes! Everything is within walking distance, and if not, one can rent bikes from the dive shop just up the road. If you're thinking of a relaxing holiday, at good value, with all of your needs quickly answered too, and desire the 'traditiional island experience' then this is the place to stay!!

When you want to get away from it all and relax, than this is for sure one of the places. I was there many times. Remember your not in Las Vegas. And that in it self is Great.
LOL.. So when you want to Relax, go to the Salt Raker Inn. The late 1980's threw the 90's Grand Turk was my home..
If you can not handle "Serenity" than stay at home. Lol.
Have fun now.

“The only tourist on the Island.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2008

I arrived at The Salt Raker Inn August 31. It was built in 1830 but very well cared for by Erica and her staff. I had a relaxing time until hurricane Hanna arrived. They asked if I wanted to evacuate, but I said no ! After the storm was over things got back to normal. It is a very pleasant place to stay. Then came hurricane Ike ! This was a category 2 hurricane, but it absorbed the hurricane behind it named Joesphine and then became a category 5 hurricane !
After it was all over I was interviewed by CNN as the only tourist on the island, the only one who wouldn't leave. I was on my two week vacation from Canada Post and was determined to take it.
The British sent a helicopter to checkout the damage and radioed for one thousand body-bags for the dead. When they landed they found that NO ONE DIED ! About sixty percent of the people lost there homes altogether, and everyone had extensive property damage. Erica and her staff remained on the job throughout the storms and the Inn continues to be open for business, but without the restaurant and bar which received extensive damage.
I loved this place and can't wait to go back.

“Charming and perfect Salt Raker Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2008

Rooms are huge, staff is extrememly friendly and accommodating. We had been diving on Wednesday, and the restaurant was closed when we got back, but Erika (the owner) asked if she could fix us a sandwich if that would be okay. She went into the kitchen and came out with two huge, delicious sandwiches. Erika is the sweetest, most attentive hostess we've ever encountered, and the charm of the hotel was great. Our room was always clean and anything we needed was taken care of quickly and courteously. I would highly recommend the Salt Raker Inn to anyone staying on the island for diving, who wants a quiet, clean peaceful place to stay. The Secret Garden was fantastic for all of our meals.

  • Liked — Convenient and very attentive staff
  • Disliked — There was nothing we didn't like
