got there & was treated with a "complementary" rum punch. sent off to a hot room (no air conditioning), came back for cocktails for which tab was being kept by the owner/pirate, no price given, ate dinner which was pretty good, no price given though, realized we were the only guests, booked scuba with another rival group that the windmills owner/pirate did not like & he told me that was "a naive decision" & he would handle my scuba since we did not know what we were doing, ate another meal which was pretty good, they tried to shove drinks down my throat, brought out champagne which we did not want, but they popped the cork anyway, slept in a hot room for another night, emergency calls from home but owner/pirate never gave us the message or told us to come to the phone, then next day decided to leave, would not let us call our own cab, had the scuba lady we did not use for scuba take us to the air strip, got out of there, back to provo where the chef @ the provo hotel restaurant we dined told us the windmills owners were sketchy to say the least, & that's all!

“The Perfect Honeymoon Spot”

My wife and I spent the first week of our married life at this little paradise. I cannot say enough good things about the service and the facilities. Just a little romantic paradise. I saw more aquatic life while snorkeling right off the beach then I have ever seen diving of the Florida Keys. The diving truly is word class.
My wife and I did not want to spend our honeymoon like "one of the heard" at an all inclusive place. Windmills was the perfect fit for us.
Moonlit walks on the beach with no one else anywhere near us.
The food was amazing and they even catered to our requests. Not and easy task on that small and island!

Stayed June 2007

“Wonderful!!!!”

My husband and I honeymooned in Salt Cay and stayed at Windmills. It was just amazing. The food is absolutely delicious, the accommodations are gorgeous, and the service is amazing. It is very, very private. The beach is gorgeous and pristine. The snorkeling right in front of the hotel is some of the best we have ever done. Jim and Sharon are very thoughtful and accommodating hosts. Salt Cay is unlike any place we've ever visited. We will definitely return.

“magical place”

What a fantastic spot! 7 rooms, magnificent completely deserted private 1 mile long beach (maybe the best in the Caribbean). The owners Sharon and Jim Shafer make the best food I have ever eaten in the Caribbean. They are the most congenial hosts for a small resort. Excellent snorkelling 300 yeards up the beach, fishing, diving, exploring and relaxing! Wow; The Windmills Plantation just has that special quality of being next to perfect. In 25 years of going to many small resorts in the Caribbean this is the best I have ever been to by a wide margin!

“Windmills Is Just About Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2004

I just left Windmills Plantation and I am already planning a trip back.
Windmills is pretty near perfect in my opinion. There are only 8 guest rooms, all with lovely views of the sea. The buildings are classic (yet whimsical) and the rooms are very well appointed. The grounds are well kept with a big two mile private beach (in addition to the rest of the little island). Snorkle right off the beach and collect shells galore.
We dived a few days, but there is plenty to do (or not do) besides diving (kayaks, etc). There are plenty of good beach loungers, hammocks and special places to relax like the lovely outdoor living room (rattan couches and big club chairs). Jim and Sharon are your hosts and they take care to make your stay special. The food is INCREDIBLE - everything is made there (including the 10+ desserts offered each night) and special needs are no problem (veggie, lactose intol etc). It was absolutely lovely and peaceful. Highly recommended by a picky New Yorker who has stayed on many islands in the Carribean. Book with confidence.
