My spouse and I spent 7 days at Mt. Irvine in March 2011. We wanted a quiet, relaxing hotel with enough privacy so we can unwind from the hectic pace of life. We were very pleased with Mr. Irvin. The hotel staff were extremely courteous particularly Ms. Peterken. The General Manager also warmly welcomed us and we were at home with everyone, including the cleaners. The restaurant meals were of top quality and the service was excellent.
While we were there the hotel was not very occupied but even though this is so, everything is in place to welcome their full potential of guests in their 105 room hotel. The surroundings are well maintained, and we took walks in their gardens with well manicured lawns and foot-paths.
Maybe, not everyone will like Mr. Irvin since it is more of an antique type hotel, but we loved it since it served our purpose - great location, breath-taking views, friendly staff and service, 24 hour security, short walk to the beach, which by the way provides a beach bar, restaurant, changing rooms and towels, etc.
The hotel also has cabanas, with mini kitchenettes.
If you are looking for rest, relaxation as well as your privacy, this hotel is the best. I did not give it 5 stars because at the time of our stay we were only able to access internet services from the lobby. However, we were assured that this service will soon be available in all rooms. Also, the room we stayed in did not have a refrigerator or a microwave. This too, we were told will soon be outfitted in some of the rooms. However, the Cabanas have small refrigerators and hot water kettles.
Although there was no refrigerator, we returned to our room and met ice that was placed by the cleaning lady. The purpose of the trip was to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the hotel got note of this and sent us a complimentary basket of fruits as well as a bottle of wine.
Can't wait to go back. This is definitely our rest and relaxation stop.
