There are few places to stay on the North Coast of Trinidad and this lodge is one of the only options. Within walking distance to the beach/ocean, Las Cuevas means The Caves - and there are a couple along the beach to explore.

The room we stayed in was fairly clean, but the shower was missing its head, the window wouldn't completely close, and multiple springs could be felt throughout the mattress making it tough to get a good night sleep. But there is an air conditioning unit!

Those little inconveniences aside, the patio area is a great place to swing in a hammock, relax, and provides a great place to meet other guests and locals. One was even kind enough to take us on a wonderful hike through the rainforest to a spectacular water fall!

Eating out is difficult (there are no restaurants to speak of), so be sure to tell the Lodge manager that you want to have dinner that evening while you're enjoying your breakfast. Otherwise, you might end up having to drive back over the mountains just to find something besides bake and shark.

All in all, this was an interesting and relaxing place to stay. But the reason to visit is more about the scenery and the natural beauty that surrounds the area.

If you are in persue of a spot of tranquility and relaxation in Trinidad, this place is definitely the one, not a whole lot of luxury but perfect for the price. Very clean and neat. The attention we received from Mrs. Andy measures up to many five star hotels I have been in friendlyness and customer care.
Las Cuevas Beach is very beatiful and the waters are almost transparent, the locals are totaly friendly and is not to far (45 min. in car) from Port of Spain. Be advised to take mosquito repellent as there is a lot of them in the evening, also the food in Trinidad tends to be on the spicy (hot) side.

This is a 7 bedroomed lodge with fantastic views overlooking the Caribbean sea. It is under new management and regularly visited by UP the owner, who is also an excellent cook! Rooms are en suite, and the pressure of the water in the showers is just amazing.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, and Andy the lady in charge of virtually everything from cooking to room service, is a lovely addition to this small hostel.

I recommend this lodge to those who are seeking non-tourist attractions and beaches, and who are interested to meet local people and get to know the local culture, cuisine, or simply enjoy a quiet corner of Trinidad. The lodge is only 22 kms from Port of Spain, and can be reached through Maraval taking the scenic road over the mountains. The road is of acceptable quality but care must be taken as local drivers tend to drive in the middle of the road.

The lodge is good value for money, and you can even negotiate half or full board. The management is so friendly and flexible that you can even design your own menu. It cannot get better than this. Enjoy your stay at Las Cuevas Beach Lodge.
