I booked my brothers and their families into the Chaconia hotel from the 3-11Oct (from germany...four adults and six children). I work in the service industry and am very critical where cleanliness and customer service is concerned. The staff that I met on all occasions was extremely professional and friendly and showed me the rooms for my inspection which included a fridge and safe at no extra cost. The cost per room was under $600TT and included a scrumptious Caribbean style breakfast. A laundry room is available which is important when travelling with small children. The staff from" captain to cook" were wonderful and helpful at all times - they all had a truly wonderful vacation.

This hotel is a complete rip off. The unfriendliness and incompetence of the staff, the quality of the room interior, the location and the quality of food are not justifying the overpriced rates. Avoid at all cost and go for the Hilton instead (part of our wedding group used it and although you pay a bit more it provides a substantially better experience)

The room was extremely filthy, coated in dust and the windows were dirt covered.
There were bits of cement on the bed covers, and the room smelled musty, as if it hadn't been aired out on weeks. It was so bad we had to leave immediately for a different hotel.
The hotel staff was very rude, and at one point refused to refund us. Eventually we settled for a refund receipt which we were told to cash in 2 days later when the manager was in... at which point they once again refused to reimburse us! We had to fight for our money back tooth and nail.
This was a horrible experience and I would never recomment anyone to this awful hotel.

We stayed at the Chaconia for 11 days, arriving a few days before Carnival. We chose it because we could not find a better one in Port of Spain offering two beds: some hotels still had vacancies for rooms with just one bed, but we don't like to fight over the sheets at night... The Chaconia is about 6km north of POS, and sometimes it was difficult to find a taxi to drive us to or from the hotel. The room was ok, not too clean, but we liked the fridge, and it had a TV. It faced an inner court in which there was a battery of air conditioners roaring all night, so we could not sleep without earplugs. The restaurant was open only one night, despite information from the reception. So we went to bed without dinner twice (see comment about taxis above). Breakfast was included in the rate, but if you do not like local breakfast, there is not much left. We were surprised to get some jam the day after we had asked for it. But after two days it was gone, and was never replenished. We bought our own, then. The table cloths in the breakfast room were quite dirty; they replaced them may be once a week. They have a nice little garden with a bathtub of a swimmin pool.
