“Never again. Horrendous service. Unsuited for business travellers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2007

Disastrous experience.

1) I was in Port of Spain on business and took quite a bit of taxis around. The ones hired from reception were notably and suspiciously more expensive than when hired from my business location.

2) Wake up calls ? Forget about it. And forget about letting them know. They simply could not care less.

3) You need a taxi to te airport at certain time ? They will assess if that is too much time in advance and will call the taxi when ito come. Needless to say, they will not tell you.

4) Currency exchange ? Never enough, never ready ...

5) Broadband Internet: Sometimes work, sometimes does not. The speed was definitively not up to standard

6) In all fairness, the only good thing is the restaurant. The rest is just unprofessional and so poor that I strongly discourage staying there.

“Cozy Inn But Far and Small!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2006

I was told good things about the Coblentz Inn from a few co-workers, and so decided to go there (choosing it over the Hilton) for a 3-week business trip. I stayed at "This Ol' House" room.

Pros:
- Staff was friendly
- It is small, so you get to know the staff
- In a quiet area (if you like that)
- It is cozy, well-decorated, and very clean
- Free wireless internet
- A large super-market (Hi-Lo) just opened up about 10 minutes walking distance
- Amazing restaurant downstairs (Batimamzelle) - 5 Star and rated one of the best in Trinidad!
- Good high-end restaurants within 20 minutes walk
- 15 minute walk to the Savannah

Cons:
- The rooms are tiny - after the first week, this really affected me
- Limited facilities - no fitness centre, no pool, jacuzzi was closed
- Restaurant is right outside the rooms - very annoying to hear patrons laughing away and loud music blaring at midnight
- Restaurant closes at 11pm, and 10pm on Sundays - makes getting food at night extremely difficult (hard to find delivery in Trinidad at those hours)
- The main problem for me was location - it's in a residential area with VERY few stores around within walking distances - virtually NO food places aside from very high-end restaurants
- Wireless speeds were horrid and the router dropped completely for a few days

“best service”

This hotel has the best service that you can find in Port of Spain. The restaurant is excellent and has a surprisingly nice wine list. The theme rooms are lovely. I will definitely stay here next time I am in Port of Spain.

“BESTplace in Port of Spain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2006

Don't look elsewhere.

This is by far best place in Port of Spain, unless you are looking for the neutral corporate experience. Rooms are small but very cozy and thematic, makes you wonder where will you stay next time. I did in Great Savannah, Central, President's house, islands of trinidad, and some others. It also houses one the best restaurant in the Caribbean, Batimanzelle, very expensive, but the great experience woth it. However, it does have room service with very unexpensive options for you to enjoy. The hotel has a hot tub on a roof terrace, which is very pleasant. Internet is free, in other hotels in Port of Spain they charge you 15 dollars half an hour for internet. They have free coffee in the corridors with many books of trinidadian culture. Decoration is exquisite, not luxurious. But ask them to place you in the first floor, the ground floor is unconvenient, but good as well.

But the very best of the Hotel is service, they are simply fantastic, I have been going to Coblentz for one year and a half, and they have always remember my name, and feel bad when they have no rooms available for me ( i feel worst ). I have stayed at every hotel in Port of Spain, and this has been by far the best of experiences. In this aspect, service, i believe is one of the best moderate boutiques i have been to, and I travel a lot.

Again, do not look elsewhere.

“best of slim pickings in POS”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2006

I booked here for a business trip because the large hotels (Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Marriott) were all booked up. I've stayed at the Crowne Plaza and seen the Hilton - the Coblentz Inn is superior to both. The staff are comparatively very competent, friendly, and helpful. The rooms, though small, are clean and quiet (unlike the Crowne Plaza which is dingy and surrounded by construction sites). There is no swimming pool or fitness center, but there is a nice terrace with a large hottub/jaccuzi. The complimentary breakfast is quite good and the restaurant is wonderful for dinner (especially if you get an outside table). There are also very good Thai, Indian, and continental restaurants within 15 minutes walking distance or a very short taxi ride. A taxi downtown takes about 20 minutes in rush hour and costs US$7.

Only complaints: the internet service was down for a couple of days (the router got fried by a power surge) and the water pressure in the showers was sluggish one morning. Some mornings, there was a short wait (5 to 10 minutes) for a taxi to arrive.

Otherwise, the Coblentz is head and shoulders above the competition - but there really is not much competition in POS. I'd definitely stay at the Coblentz again.
