“Real Home from home in Port of Spain”

We recently visited Port of Spain and having seen some of the reviews on the Gingerbread House, decided to stay there for the full 2 weeks of our visit to Trinidad, as it sounded so welcoming.

It was great - and absolutely lived up to our expectations. It was an excellent base for the holiday being centrally located, but just far enough away from the hustle & bustle, so it wasn't noisy at night .

The house is lovely, rooms are well presented and comfortable, and our hosts particularly Rosemary, couldn't have been more accommodating or helpful. Breakfast was excellent every morning and more than enough to keep us going for a day visiting/ sight seeing.

It made such a nice change also to stay somewhere with a personal touch, rather than in a hotel.

If we have the opportunity to go back to Trinidad it would definitely be a lovely place to stay again.

“Great B&B”

In Port of Spain we stayed at The Gingerbread House B&B, 8 Carlos St, Woodbrook,

The house has been beautifully renovated, and our room was nicely decorated and comfortable. Rosemary, the owner, provided great breakfasts (fruit, eggs & toast, cereals, muffins, coffee, etc.). The area is safe and location is good for both transportation (Wrightson Road) and entertainment (Ariapita Avenue). Rosemary was very accommodating and helpful and good source of info on Port of Spain. While it’s not the cheapest accommodation around, I whole heartedly recommend the Gingerbread House.

“A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE”

We spent a wonderful 5 days at the Gingerbread House. Our hosts Bernard & Rosemary, daughter Natalie, dog Ollie, Maid Sandra & Gardener Mr James, welcomed us into their beautiful home and treated us like family. Rosemary's breakfasts were sumptuous - orange juice, fresh fruit, a selection of cereals, eggs & bacon, toast & jam, coffee or tea. Located in a quiet, safe street in a nice area of Port of Spain (Woodbrook) yet within walking distance of 'downtown' in one direction and St. James in the other. The lively Ariapita Avenue with it's restuarants, bars & shops is one block away (for those interested in Carnival one of the judging stands on Ariapita Ave is adjacent to Carlos Street). For cricket fans the Queens Park Oval is a short 10 minute walk away. The accomodation (only three rooms) is excellent with both air conditioning & a ceiling fan, the grounds very well kept and there is a refreshing plunge pool with 'jacuzzi vents' in the back garden with tables, chairs & loungers. On two occasions we awoke early (4.00-4.30am), once to take the early ferry to Tobago and the other to go to the airport. Rosemary was there to offer us coffee & tea before our departure. What service!!!! We just can't say enough in praise of The Gingerbread House. If we ever return to Trinidad we will definitely stay there. As other reviewers have said, "A truly home away from home".

“Honourary Trinis”

Rosemary, Bernaud and Natalie made us feel very welcome, nearly family!!! We loved the food, the location and the attention to detail. Nothing was too much trouble. The room may have been a tad on the small size but I cannot fault the service. Fresh towels daily, bed changed every two/three days. I would highly recommend staying with them. Especially for Carnival - a better location you could not find. Thanks for making the first 8 days in Trini so good.

“Excellent place, perfect location, almost everything you would want.”

I took my wife to Trinidad for the first time and we can't wait to go back. First, about the Gingerbread House. We awoke to home made breakfast every morning, delicious island dishes (bake and salt fish, coconut water on one occasion) and they even sent the staff out one day because I just felt like having Frosted Flakes.

The place is beautiful. It is in the perfect location just out of town but still in town. We rented a car but you could take public transportation from about a 1 minute walk away. Also, we parked right on site with no problems. The owners work in a building right behind the house so even if there is a problem (there was never a problem) you can speak to them at any time.

The island is beautiful. We went to 3 beaches, a nature center and really had a great time. I recommend staying at this location to everyone who has thought about visiting Trinidad.

Side note, try the Palori (a sort of fried, curry flavored dough) with the dipping sauce. You will not regret it.
