“Relaxed. Enjoyed. Will Repeat!”
We opted for Cascadia on a recent weekend getaway, must say I dont regret my boyfriend's choice of stay at all!!
First off is the great service from the staff, especially Mr. Bidaisee, the manager, who's really very warm, attentive and professional at all times, he certainly is an asset to the hotel. Both the front desk and restaurant staff were very efficient, if not at times maybe too brisk.
Location wise the hotel is about 10 mins away from the Queens Park Savannah, and you definitely need a vehicle to get in and out of the city, walking is really not recommended.
A breakfast buffet was included in our package, an inclusion that we were so appreciative of, especially as the weekend chef preparing on-demand eggs and pancakes was top notch, the other options (fried bake, bagels, croissants, sliced bread, corned beef, smoked herring, pumpkin, baked beans, bacon, veggie quiche, sweet pastries and fresh fruit et al) were very well prepared and delish.
The rooms themselves are comfortable, but not plush. Our first floor room offered full carpeting, (I cant say I recall seeing the housekeeping service vacuum while I was there) daily changed linens and very clean towels, most importantly in the tropic heat; the Air-con worked wonderfully well. The room did offer a cozy balcony, however the view was of a rather tired roof of the adjoining restaurant, and while we did have a table, there were no chairs! The bathroom was tiled, and was clean albeit aged. Both the shower and hot water worked like a charm, and there was ample bathroom counter space for his & her toiletries. Ice was available from a Red Bull "cooler" at the end of the hall, however it would have been nice if it were replenished more regularly as by our second day all we had access to was frigid water.
The gym was locked during our stay, we really didnt bother to enquire further and chose instead to go upstairs to the pool, which is very clean although there are a few loose tiles at the bottom. We had a spot of adventure on Sat night after a baby bat (!!) made it into the pool as well, however a maintenance person was around to help fish him out. We had every intention of visiting the water slides on the same compound but never got the time to go, next time for sure! One caveat though, on Sat morning the pool is not fully available for hotel guest as there is a kids swimming lesson in progress by a rather surly female instructor. We didnt mind, and were planning to head back to our room anyway, but I can imagine it may pose a problem to other guests.
Another review mentioned prostitutes? We didnt see any evidence of same, really the hot spot for such activity is in Port of Spain proper, esp in the Woodbrook/Ariapita Avenue area. The Cascade/St Anns area the hotel is in is a quiet, quasi-residential area, yes there is a "village" of sorts, but I dont regard it as a crime spot, unlike the lower Belmont area.
The only nearby night life is a local themed bar/club on the compound called "Spalkers" we enjoyed a decent dinner there and stuck around for the after party, we left as it was in full swing, and were pleasantly surprised that we didnt hear a peep of the music when we settled back in our room.
Cascadia is not a luxury hotel, we had previous experience with the hotel and knew what to expect. As such we were very comfortable and able to relax quite nicely... which was the main goal of our stay. Breakfast is great, and the facilities we used in good condition, a very recommended hotel.
