“Business trip”

We just spent a weekend at The Royal Hotel. My husband was there on business. I have to say i was a bit uncertain how the stay would be after reading the reviews on the hotel once I found out where the company had booked us. I have to say we were very pleased with our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent...the bar was great. The room we were in is a bit dated but was comfortable. The pool was nice. The free wireless internet did not pick up very well in our room and was very slow but other wise we really have no complaints....would we stay there again??? You bet we would.

“A nice place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2007

Ten of us arrived at the Royal hotel after midnight and were quickly checked into our rooms. We were in trinidad for my wedding. My room was located poolside. The room itself was ok. Some of the others in our party had better looking rooms but ours was ok. The pool was nice and the restraunt was good. The price included breakfast which was a plus. The fruit platters in the morning were very nice. Having complimentary wireless internet throughout the property was a good touch. The cable T.V. in the rooms was good. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. On the day of my wedding our transportation to the church fell through at the last minute leaving us all dressed up and no way to get to the wedding which was supposed to occur in 30 minutes. The staff at the check-in desk was able to call up a number of local taxis to get us to the wedding on time. We were also able to check out late that day without being charged which was also appreciated.
There is not much to do tourist-wise in the local area of the hotel but we organised a couple of tours of the place easily. I don’t think i would venture out into the local area at night on foot but the hotel itself was very secure.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. I thought it would be a dive but it turned out to be pretty good.

I stayed at the Royal Hotel in August last year and the experience was horrible. The staff was very unfriendly and the prices are ridiculously high. The service was extremly poor, however the hotel was kept clean.

“Decent hotel with a few problems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2006

I stayed at the Royal Hotel for a week on business. The hotel is quite old, but has undergone some renovation. The rooms are spartan and the furniture is dated, but the rooms are kept clean and the beds are comfy. The bathrooms are okay with a tub-shower, but again, spartan.

The maids don't change water glasses, they merely rinse them out and set them back on the counter (I know this because I marked one of the glasses) Towels are on the thin side, and they don't provide washcloths (?) A/C and in-room fridge worked great.

Service was okay, but I had to beg for shampoo that was never replenished and shocked when the manager told me (at 7 pm) that it was impossible to get me any shampoo until the next morning because housekeeping was "closed."

The food in the restaurant good overall, and the pasta dishes were excellent. Service varied server to server, with some being lazy and inattentive to some being excellent. I guess you take your chances.

Wireless internet (free) worked great and the cable TV had American programming and premium channels. The TV was mounted high on the wall and had great visibility.

Each room has a small private balcony that overlooks the pool. The balconies are great if you're a cigar smoker like me.

There is no mini market or concession on the property. There is a small market just ouside the hotel, but be careful at night, the neighborhood is not the greatest.

I wouldn't rush back to this hotel, but if required to stay there again, I wouldn't mind.

  • Liked — Free wireless, great TV, nice balcony
  • Disliked — inconsistent and sometimes lazy service.
  • Tips/Secrets — Be careful when off hotel gounds, hotel located in marginal neighborhood

“Ridicilous price”

Hotel is incredibly overpriced. Food good, service OK, but price is insane for quality, eqivalent to a Super 8 motel or Motel 6 on a good day.
