“Worst. Hotel. Ever.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2009

We booked this hotel because it was close to the airport, we were getting in late and flying to Tobago early so it only made sense to stay here. There are times when sense fails you.

This was the most horrific hotel experience. Our room was filthy. The shower and sink stained. The linoleum was destroyed by water damage. I think the sheets were clean, the comforter obviously was not. Fortunately, it was warm and we slept on the bed in our clothes. We were frightened. Afterwards, we were told by our friends in Tobago that the Trinidad gov't warns against staying in this hotel. We were not surprised. One of the other reviews said they did not see roaches as even they have higher standards. That's about right.

“slum”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2008

Do not book this hotel, it’s a slum. To keep this review concise, here are some reasons
*Over priced food and beverages
*hotel is a rotted wooden house
*rooms smelled like old molded rags
*the bed linen was soiled stained
*the bathroom had used soap and the tiles were mildewed
*the hotel is not cable ready, has no TV remote control and has a semi functional antenna

Do not stay in this slum and advise your friends the same.

Just imagine I'm local

“Shockingly decrepit hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2008

I booked this hotel going off of Lonely Planet's description and a look at the website, expecting a simple but decent hotel to spend the night in order to catch a 6:55am flight. Instead we found a slum. Yes, I would describe the owners as slumlords.

The smell of mildewy rot was completely overpowering. The walls and carpets were damp and discolored. Not patches, but entire sections. Vents were covered in mildew and rust. Hairs were on the bedding. There were roaches crawling around the shower. There was a man sitting in his underwear with his door half open, peeking out the window watching guests as they arrived. Later in the evening, that door closed but two more opened up down the hallway.

The semi-dressed man, along with signs instructing the proper disposal of contraceptives and warning of extra fees due to the constant threat of towels, linens and keys confirmed my suspicion that the place doubles as a brothel.

We paid $200 for the priviledge.

DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL. I was just a fool who didn't do enough research, trusting that the Lonely Planet writer had actually been there, rather than ripped off the description from the hotel's deceptive website.

  • Liked — There was nothing to like.
  • Disliked — The mildew, the rot, the price, the other guests.

“It would be better to sleep on the side of the road...”

My husband and I had the horrible displeasure of staying in this dump for one night after leaving Tobago and before departing from Trinidad. We have travelled all over the world and stayed in all manner of accomodations in all kinds of situations and never have we been so repulsed. It is unbelievable that anyone could ever find this place acceptable to house human beings. This place makes Canadian prisons seem like the Four Seasons.

Where can I begin with the list of atrocities at this hotel... (by the way, everything everyone else has said is true and then some!)... there was human body hair left in the bathtub, all of the light fixtures were bare bulbs, there was a stinky drain in the middle of the bathroom floor, the floor boards in the rest of the room felt like they would cave in with every step (my husband and I weigh 150 and 120 lbs. repectively, which I don't think should be too heavy for a floor!), the mattress was too large for the box spring (or whatever it was) so we had to snuggle close to the middle in the amazing heat and humidity (the a/c was non-existent) so that we didn't fall off of the bed on to the 1940s carpet, and on and on. After we had already booked and paid (the worst $130 I have ever spent), I read in our guidebook that the Bel Air was built in the 1940s. It must be true - nothing has been updated since. I thought that they could put their lamps on ebay and make a fortune selling them to collectors of vintage home decor.

In short, do not be deceived by the on-line photos as we were. They are totally false. My husband and I took video of the hotel room because we didn't think that people would really believe us, but we took no photos. We're going to see if we can extract some stills to post on this site because people really need to know. As others have said, the only reasonable thing to do to this place is to tear it down. I would not wish that the person I dislike most to have to spend five minutes here.

“Avoid this one like the plague!”

Absolute dump!

Old bedding on bed..found dead spider on pillow. The whole room smelt damp & the shower was unusable as it was filthy! I slept in my clothes as the bedding was not clean. I left after one night but had paid for seven. I was only refunded a small fraction of my credit card payment, so beware if you book for the week, you will lose most of your payment. AVOID THIS FLEA PIT!

  • Liked — nothing.
  • Disliked — filthy room which I would not piut a dog into
