“little gem of an island and place to stay”

We spent 4 nights at Dennis' early December and it was a lot of fun and had everything we needed, loved the pool and the grounds were gorgeous. We liked to go to the top of the tower and lay in the hammocks and read and listen to the neighborhood.

The staff is very friendly and will talk with you over cocktails. Bring bug spray though.

Our room #4 did not have hot water don't know if this was normal, didn't ask because it is not a big thing for us.

In our room quote several months earlier he said cont. breakfast was incl. but no one seemed to know of this when we asked. Dennis and his co-cook "shorty" work very hard each dinner to make a very good meal.

There was a computer for checking your email.

Overall this is a very well run establishment on a tiny island. You can walk to Saline Bay beach and Salt Whistle Bay, but recommend a taxi on the way back from Salt Whistle. Salt Whistle Bay was our favorite beach out of all the beaches we visited during our 10 day trip.

Would love to come here again.

“Mayreau 2010”

Dennis Hideaway is a friendly but simple hotel. Rooms felt fresh and AC was functioning.
The view from our room was scenic. We appreciated very much the time when Dennis and his staff came down to the beach and surprised us with a dinner consisting of freshly caught fish, kalaloo soup, beer and wine. They made a bbq while we were sipping down the beer in the very beautiful Saltwhistle Bay. This was one of the better days we had during our 5 week long Caribbean vacation.

“Great place for visiting the Tobago Cays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2011

We stayed at Dennis' for 5 nights. The room (No.5) was very nice, large and airy with two large beds. There was A/C and a (totally useless!) ceiling fan, a decent sized fridge for drinks and glorious views over to Union Island. The rate of US$85 a night included a continental breakfast, which is juice, toast & jam and tea or coffee.
The restaurant food is excellent and the portions generally large. Dennis did the cooking every day and because the ingredients vary with what he can get, you can have the same meal two days in a row and it will be different each time. He will also prepare items which aren't on the menu - I had a delicious shark curry one evening (not on the menu), at Dennis' suggestion.
The bar is a nice place to sit and socialise in the evening. The rum punches are very good, and you tend to get all sorts of people dropping by, either locals or people who are on their way up or down the Grenadines, so there is generally some good banter, particularly from Dennis, who will tell and retell stories as long as you let him!
Our only complaint was occasional poor water pressure - Dennis has his own desalination plant installed to supplement the collected rainwater supply so there should be no shortage of water (although naturally, it shouldn't be wasted because it is expensive to produce) but occasionally the pressure was so low that we could only get about half a pint a minute out of the tap (and we were the only guests so there shouldn't have been any problems with others using the water). It was soon sorted, when we told the staff.
All in all a highly recommended place to stay.

THE HOTEL: Is set upon the lovely Island of Mayreau. The property is quaint, grounds are nicely trimmed. We could not fault the Hideaway.
ROOM QUALITY: Our room was a small w/ 2-twin beds, small fridge, end tables & a small closet to put our things. The view from our top floor balcony --could not be any better! To sit out & read a book with the warm ocean breeze. You can see Union Island also just Lovely!
SERVICE QUALITY: Honestly we had NO problems w/ Dennis & Gosia. They were actually worried for us as we did not leave the room the 1st night. We had taken the Freindship Rose from Bequia that day & Snorkeled & Drank & ate & swam. K was not feeling 100% so we just ate some snacks read our books & hit the hay. They were looking out & that was nice:) The room was made up every day. One thing though..no blankets only sheets, Suppose one is not needed most of the time. We always bring a small fleece, so we were good. The A/C worked just fine.
WHAT YOU GET BOTTLES OF IN THE BATHROOM: Small soaps, I think that was it. The water pump went out while we were there, so did not really shower, also coldish water only. Mayreau is a tiny island, their water comes from the sky-please conserve, or they have none for cooking & cleaning.
CLIENTELE: All sorts! Young, old, rich, poor, famous, All walks of life step onto this piece of paradise. It was a real treat to see the people who would come through here:) Never felt crowded, overwhelmed or shunned here. Not too many guests but day trippers stopped by anytime of the day or night. Good times:)
HOWS THE POOL/BEACH: The pool was very cool. Yet refreshing after walking around the island. The Ocean is a good steep hill away from Dennis'. We did go down once or twice, the ocean is nice not too rough, some shade trees to hang under. @ the time we were the only ones on the beach. Talk about privacy! Can watch the ferry boats go by & other yatties anchoring for the day.
THE FOOD: Really hate to admit this--it was much better than we expected. Small-BF-was included in the price of the room. Toast, jam, coffee & juice. Everything else was for purchase. A little pricy--wanted hot cakes one day & they were out;( Cannot recall if we had lunch there or not? We did go Nov. 2010-so this review is late. BUT the dinners I have to say were excellent! K had conch for the 1st time & loved it. You sat @ the bar & ordered from the menu, when it was done you were moved over to the dining area above the pool, candles were lit, food & drinks were set for you. One night we were invited to dine w/ a world champ sailor, it was a fun evening, BUT the best part was he turned us onto the banana flambe! I think we licked the plate!!
THE DRINKS: Well needless to say we found the Jack rum! I like it ALOT!! W/ a bottled Coke on the side, What more could you ask for? Ok- well K & Dennis both had to come down & tell Gosia & I to turn the music down & come to bed on more than one occasion! hahahaha!!! Yes the drinks work, no watering down here. Also Gosia & Dennis turned us on to a new fav. Rum & Ginger (ale) sooo refreshing! We have them @ home now, thanks you 2:)
THE ENTERTAINMENT: Well Gosia & I had much fun entertaining ourselves! You can also.....tour the island on foot, go up the the chapel & over look the Tabago Cays--breathtaking views!! Walk over the hill to Salt whistle Bay. Has to be the most beautiful bay we have ever seen. Very picturesque. (Also very glad we did not stay there). There is a "shack" of a bar just up the road from Dennis' you will probably find entertainment there --of all sorts;)
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW:-Mayreau is a tiny island, many amenities are just not found here. If you want to pampered & pawed over--this is not the island for you. They just cannot get certain things done without costing a fortune or being a big hassle. It is not a wealthy island--like some others in the Grenadines. The locals are very nice-we got no hassles from anyone--except a little very old lady up by the chapel-came out of nowhere & spooked us. Our fault for not paying attention! haha Also again please be very conservative of their water, although they are surrounded by it--they only get what comes naturally from the rainfall.
CONS:The only thing was when arriving by water taxi & getting to Union by water taxi we were quoted $50US. Well we were charged $80.US both times. Not Dennis' fault-was not his boat. What could we do? Nothing & went about our holiday:)
Would we stay here again-YES! :^)
KNK"S RATING OF DENNIS' HIDEAWAY: We enjoyed our stay here, cannot fault Dennis or the island of Mayreau. Its up to you to make your holiday the best--rain or shine, good & bad. On a scale of 10--KNK give it a 7.5:)

Room Tip: Call ahead & get a top floor balcony:0)

Where can I start ? Air conditions were out of order, swimming pool was full of insects , restaurant kitchen was the dirtiest kitchen , owner of place Dennis was generally drunk and always having discussions with clients... I think the positive commends about here made by the owner of this place's friends.. I'm 43 years old and more less 27 years I'm a travelling with my friends and ı can easily say that DENNİS HİDEAWAY İS THE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN...

Room Tip: Never go there
